I have IBS c and have followed the Fodmap diet for a while but I found that it didn't contain enough fibre for me. I do stay from the main triggers such as onions and have reduced my gluten intake greatly but over all I think it's more suited to IBS D.
I'm definitely going to be more observant than I have been.
Do you think it takes us c people much longer to get a food entirely out of our bodies?. I had beets wed night (too much and too late at night) and had terrible pains. This was before I knew fodmap food.
I can tell I still have beets working their way out (Sat. Morning) because of the colors.
I have found through trial and error that the Prunes are the best for me to take. I have to take at least 8 per day.
I also take a probiotic each day, not sure if it does me any good. My system is soooo slow.
I also eat loads of vegetables especially in soup for the liquid. It's a constant battle. Also porridge ( with prunes).
Aspects of the Fodmap diet are worth following we are all different.
Angel1 is probably right that certain aspects of Fodmaps are more helpful forIBSD. However it certainly helps IbSC also as I have IBSA which is alternating.
I suggest you get the app which is the best thing to help you fathom out which foods are which.
Monash University developed Fodmaps and are still testing foods and updating the app continually. It's really simple to follow as traffic light system so eat only those marked green initially.
Try milled flaxseed (linseed) on cereals etc. I use this as other sorts of fibre upset me. I try to follow some aspects of fodmap, esp the fruit i eat (mainly banana and blueberries), but its not perfect.
Hi, my C is caused by a weird bend in the colon. Food and gas gets trapped there. I fare well by avoiding gas-producing foods (aka Fodmap) and avoiding fibre.
This is different from most advice for constipation. It depends on the cause of it.
A third aspect for C is motility. Taking the supplement 5-htp speeds up motility. Taking a lot of vit C (1-2 grams) also flushes the colon. Again you'd need to investigate what causes your particular constipation. Or what factors are of influence.
