well thanks for that no you are no help at all

in reply to waz2

How rude are you slagging off someone trying to help you. You can't even write a sentence. Little wonder you have a stress problem.

oh thats good from someone who can,t spell gagging properly

in reply to waz2

And not bad for someone who thinks a Dr helping you is not help at all. You need to get a grip of yourself and take a reality check.

So sorry for you. This is very much the story for most of us - IBS is a kind of 'cover all' diagnosis when they don't actually know what causes it other than anxiety and the wrong diet. I don't say 'poor diet' because many of us actually ate quite healthily but were unable to identify the causes. I've thrived since I found the low fodmap regime and every time I come off it the IBS flares up and I'm back to square one. Try avoiding the 'worst' fodmaps - onions, garlic, wheat and beans and switch to lactose free dairy foods. Give it a while and if it helps get more information online from the Monash University in Australia. I hope you can find some solutions for yourself as the medical profession don't do diet and self help very well.

Hi Pansy, your comment to Cheyne13 reminded me of the quote from Bambi, "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all". I used to say it all the time to my son when he was little! 🙂

I do feel for you. One reply you got was not at all helpful or sympathetic. Ignore it. I had a colonoscopy and gastroscopy done together a few years ago. I had polyps removed as part of the procedure too. The trouble with IBS is that it doesn't show up in blood tests or a colonoscopy. The procedures are there to rule out more serious conditions such as cancer. Results are often vague or inconclusive when it comes to IBS. The doctor giving the results my not have had much to report but if it was a Gp then she should have refered you back to a gastroenterologist. If you have IBS I would suggest you go on the Fodmap diet, don't eat too much fruit even the Fodmap allowed ones (i cant eat any fruit), don't eat oats and keep a food diary and cut out dairy for a few week to see if you are lactose/dairy intolerant. You may have some food intolerances. Some may be easy to discover, others may be difficult as they may not affect you immediately. Or you might have more than one intolerance. The top intolerances are dairy, yeast and wheat. I am dairy, yeast, sunflower oil and dextrose intolerant. It make things difficult but you do learnt to.manage things. If you need any further diet info let me know. Good luck.

I'm over 70 and have had problems since I was 27. It's not easy is it. It takes over your life. Its all about bad gut flora. I suspect mine was due to anti biotics. There is a cure, it's faecal transplant but they don't do it here in the UK.

thanks for your reply sometimes it can be really hard but the majority of people are really kind on this forum and try to help

Hi waz firstly well done for getting through it you did better than me . It’s a stressful procedure not only from not being able to eat for 24 hours , the prep and of course the procedure itself. The inflammation could be where the polyps were removed but also things like anti inflammatory medications can cause it too . Try and avoid processed foods for a bit and hopefully it will be ok sending big hugs x

Hi pansy yes I'm not allowed pharmacy or nsaids or anti inflamittary meds. To treat my sciatic nerve on my right, I bought my first hemp cream. It has other natural oils in it. So far has lessened pain during day, safer for me that chemical pain killers. As far waz2 is concerned, I find it hard to relate to do doctors and consultants which English is not very good, and tend to rush through your details and you are given very little time to discuss your case on your terms. My 2 day hospital visit two weeks ago for diverticulitis, I noticed due to covid that rounds were very short, and most were keen to send me home, after only 2 days admitted with bloody stools. Certainly some doctors and consultants clearly don't engage as much as they could. On him discharging me he suggested actimal culture yoghurt, I bought 20, for one a day, and really no difference that brings down my wind problem. Its handy to realise that NHS care is still a post lottery in some parts of the UK. Amazingly the worst funded areas of my area in Lancashire has some of the best staff and care I have found over 23 years. 👍

in reply to drax83

Hi drax sorry you’ve been in hospital hope you’re getting better . I’ve tried actimel too didn’t agree with me caused lots wind and bloating , havnt tried Yakult yet supposed to be good for constipation . I also use ibuprofen cream on my right upper glute and low back I will have a look for hemp cream !! If I take ibuprofen tablets gives me horrific gut pain don’t know why 😖xx

Morning pansy, ibpropofen is horrible stuff. I'm not allowed it internally or even a gel. Thanks for your concern, got the dreaded camera job next Friday. Interesting you found a actimel didn't work for you either. Was disappointed really. As I understand it yoghurt are not that good for the likes of us, I like them. It don't like me..lol. The hemp cream igot was from a amazon. Push container by o'rmeas 50000mg in green carton. 75ml. £12.99. So many on the market, I just went by best ceop of reviews although male I am actually a certified aromatherapist and massager. Many essencial oils and now Hemp I have used for some years, and this can as alo Vera rosemary, tea tree, hemp oil etc. Give it a go, might be surprised😉🌴🌴

in reply to drax83

Your right about the yoghurt !! Onken has probiotics in it did the same as the actimel must be the lactose in it . Good luck for your test and thanks for the hemp cream tip 😀x

Keep off the onions and garlic, although I find leeks okay! I've also shifted away from wheat, especially bread and mainly eat oats for breakfast with some Chia and granola for something to chew on all made with boiled water and oat milk. Try drinking caffeine free tea or coffee and no fizzy drinks, also cut down on your food intake as well, less stress on the tummy!

You're very welcome! I also forgot to add, try your best to stay hydrated, don't get over tired and most of all try your best to stay stress free. You may also find 20mg daily of Citalopram helps with the stress, anxiety and gut pain, I have.

Thanks matthew all the best to you

What a bunch of hypocrites. With a few exceptions. Condoning the slagging off of medical professionals trying to help and indeed, did help her. They don't have the ability to defend themselves here but I'll bet if they are made aware of this B/S slagging then they might take a different approach to you, and I couldn't blame them. The health system may be broke but that is no reason to slag the Dr's behind there backs. If you don't have the guts to address your comments directly to your Dr's then refrain from doing so here, behind their backs. Gutless wonders.

Savage me all you like, I really don't care. I take my health issues up with my Dr's directly.

Grow a pair.

You should be ashamed of yourself speaking to people the way you do. No need for rudeness. Yes the Dr and medical professionals do an amazing job and they r under alot of stress but when we r having bad days we sometimes like to rant on here doesn't mean we don't appreciate the medical professionals

Andann profile image

You should get a written report from gastro surgeon within about a week, probably by email, although it sounds a bit time consuming to be called back the next day for the results. If you don't get a report ask for it. It's important to know what kind of polyps you had and whether they are likely to grow back. And important for your own records.
