Hi, I am having a bad flare up this weekend, so much so I couldn't go out today at all. I have taken buscapan to settle the cramps but after a very bad night of diarrhoea I still feel very tender today. Can anyone offer advice on what will help.

it is normal to feel drained and exhausted after diahrrea ..some people even feel sick with nausea after each bad episode ..taking Imodium after each episode can help as from my experience Buscopan alone will not do the job.

Also stick to the safe foods and avoid trigger foods ..every ibs sufferer has his/ her own specific trigger foods ..so try to keep a food diary to track which food has caused a bad reaction and just stay away from it.

some medicines also can make diarrhea worse like NSAD (Non Steroidal Anti inflammatory Drugs) such as ibuprofen, ponstan and all painkillers under this category.

if weather is cold ..stay warm as cold air can also cause diarrhea.

I find hot water bottle or bag that is sold in pharmacies are more soothing and can relieve painful stomach spasms way better than drugs.

hope this can help and take care 🌹

I agree food can cause a flare up, I find wheat is one of the things to watch for me, to much wheat and I get a flare up. Not very pleasant when it happens.

I find peppermint or ginger tea very soothing after a bad flare up.
