So after years of trying diets and medication for IBS to minimal effect I am going to try CBT. Has anyone any experience with CBT?

CBT for IBS
Yes I've tried it several times with several different people. Lots of time and money for me ......wasted. I think for me it's a much deeper situation than my mind it's also my body....but I have heard great things about CBT working for some people. so it definitely worth a try. If you don't try you will never know and then you can also try some self healing techniques and exercises on the side.
Hi. I tried CBT a few years ago through the NHS but it didn't work for me I'm afraid. I have had much better results with Mindfulness. It helps with the anxiety that the IBS causes and how you cope with your IBS on a daily basis. Good luck.
I am currently using CBT to treat my anxiety and my IBS may be improving as a result but it is too early to say at the moment. Before seeing a therapist I hadn't realised how anxious I was (I'm pretty sure I was anxious all the time) and now think this could be the reason my IBS got so bad. However, I don't think I'll fix the IBS with CBT alone. I need to work through the reasons for my anxiety and for me this will take longer that the eight weeks you normally get on the NHS. If I was you, I'd research other therapy options in line with CBT (I'm also doing psychodynamic therapy) and consider going private if you can afford it. Even if it won't completely cure my IBS, now that I have found a therapist I connect well with, I am certainly valuing the investment and seeing broader improvements in my life.
