Does anybody know if there is a test or tests that the doctors do to diagnose IBS ?
Would be grateful to find out just so I know what to expect when I go and see my GP.
Kind regards

They do tests to rule out things. Once the tests are complete and they can't find anything untoward they label you with an IBS diagnosis. It's IBS when nothing els fits, despite whatever symptoms you have
Thank you for your kind words. I was only asking as the thought of colonoscopy and other invasive things scare the crap out of me, (pardon the pun) !!!! Lol
Take care

Hi Shaun, These are the tests that your GP should be carrying out:
nhs.uk/conditions/irritable...
Good luck.
I had blood tests but they said it was only to rule out celiac disease, so when they came back ok they said it must be ibs and gave me laxido and buscapan that's all I've been offered.
There is not one specific test but you can have tests to rule out the nasties like celiac, chrones via blood test and scan and a camera down rear passage to ensure all ok. The rest is all management of the condition.
Hi I have been diagnosed with ibs yes they usually do other tests to rule of anything else I had camera up back passage wasn't very pleasant also have had camera down throat I bowel is swollen at the entry in stomach
