CBT/Hypno book recommendation please

I`m getting more and more stressed about my IBS at the moment - in particular worrying about possibly needing a loo in a hurry and I feel this is getting out of control. I have looked into hypnotherapy but cannot afford it. Does anyone know of a good book/online course which is helpful

(I think I could get CBT on NHS but this requires a weekly committment to be somewhere at a certain time - which would cause me even more stress at the moment!)

Congrats on aknowledging that your mind messes with your gut right now. Compliments for wanting to adress it! Hypnotherapy is a good way to talk to the subconscious mind. There are other ways too.

You already got two replies. My addition would be to go a non-ibs specific route and aim to calm your head in general. Any mindfulness does this. There are guided meditations on you tube.

If you want a guided solution I vouch for Lyn White of lynwhitereversetherapy.co.uk. She does skype sessions. You'd have to pay but a few (3?) sessions are enough and I garanty success.

Reverse Therapy is an unlucky name for mindfulness exercises that will get you out of Fight or Flight and will calm you down and make you friends with your body again.

She got me out of severe ME in only 3 sessions. I first tried to do it on my own but this was much more efficient and better. Btw, I am an engineer who doesn't likes mumbo jumbo. I go by results.

If you do hypnotherapy: I found it hard to find a good one. Most of them are full of star signs and essential oils.

Ps calming the head influences the central nervous system, calming the stress hormones as a result. HPA axis, parasympathetic nervous system, amygdala retraining. Its all there. There is no gap between mind and body, it is all a continuum. Approaching the subconcious mind is a smart way to talk to the IBS.

That sounds very interesting Woolpippi and I have just had a look at the website myself and looks good.

I am exactly the same as you..... MY anxiety about needing the loo makes me need the loo which makes my anxiety worse ,repeat, repeat ,repeat!!!! I tried NHS CBT but couldn't even make the first appointment! I will try the recommended hypnosis & mindfulness too ,sounds good. I hope it works for you. I know how frustrating it can be when you want to do something/go somewhere & end up stuck on the loo instead! With 3 kids & a puppy its not ideal in my house so fingers crossed something works!!! X

Hi would recommend Anxiety Panicking about Panic by Justin Fletcher all about dealing with physical symptoms of anxiety and IBS is covered. Also an audiobook Mindfullness The 8 week meditation programme for a frantic world - helps with breathing and relaxation x
