I've had IBS-d for two years, controlling it with Imodium.
A month ago I had a scan for bone density, I have osteopenia. Because of this I have started a calcium supplement. My diarrhoea has stopped, I have formed bowel movements. This week I only had one Imodium.
I can't really believe it, and am waiting for that explosion.

That's great news! Two benefits for the price of one.
On one of the other IBS forum sites I occasionally check some of the users have recommended calcium for IBSD. Watch out if you have to take magnesium though - that can send you to the washroom pretty quick.
I read that about magnesium. The supplement I'm taking does have it, but I'm still firmed up!
Once I've finished this bottle, I will get one that doesn't have magnesium. I think it's the calcium and vitamin d that's important for bones anyway.
I've been taking AdcalD3 for about two years following my last DEXA scan but it didn't make any difference to my symptoms - but we are all different
Have you tried a dairy free diet using calcium enriched milj and yoghurt
It's a dairy free diet that keeps my symptoms at bay. My Dr putme on immodium but having fiund that dairy (lactose) is my downfall the Immodium was making thingsworse as it contains lactose and so does a lot of medication. Sone days I was taking 8 immodium tablets
I'm trying hard to go dairy free as I can see it is the top of the diarrhoea caused. I don't have a lot anyway. Using calcium oat milk which I like, what is milj?
Sorry - misspelt milk - some errors in my previous post
It's not easy giving up dairy - I had to 3 years ago at the age of 65 - I miss cheese and can't have croissants when we go abroad but I'd rather be healthy
Oh, I thought it was some non-dairy milk and yoghurt I'd not heard of!
Ive given up natural yoghurt which I love. I normally have a tiny bit of brie at Christmas, I'd already worked out years ago that cheddar gives me the trots.
I make myself a sandwich and just forget to leave off the butter which is there for my husband - thats another senior moment!!
I also use Pure vegetable spread for mashed pots and all my baking and cooking - I don't think anyone can taste the difference
Thanks
I have it in mind to do a cheese tolerance test but I need to be at home for about 3/4 days and at the moment I'm out about every 3rd day so I don't feel confident to do it but I will after Christmas
I did try lacto-free milk and cheese early after diagnosis but that was no good for me
Hopefully no explosions! Actually, for many people, taking calcium causes constipation which is why its recommended to take it with magnesium (in some cases)... but hey, maybe for you it is just what you needed!! There are different types of calcium, and its my understanding that some types are more likely to cause constipation... I wish you luck! It would be wonderful if it would keep working out to help you with the diarrhea, too!
