New diagnosis - giardia lamblia

Hello everyone. After months of feeling unwell, I have just been told I have giardia lamblia following a colonoscopy and have been put on a weeks course of antibiotics. Has anyone else had this? I have been told very little about it.

I had this a couple of times many years ago and it is horrible but the antibiotics should knock it on the head though the flagyl (if that is what you are taking) made me feel even worse for awhile. I feel that my IBS came from giardia.

Did you just have one course of antibiotics? It took a while for them to diagnose me so wondering if I will need more.

I picked up giarda from dodgy meal in Egypt . GP said it couldnt be tested for(?) but gave me antibiotics. Ok after that. Not been back to Egypt.

I was diagnosed after having a colonoscopy. Did you have just one course of antibiotics?

I was diagnosed from a stool specimen and had it twice but lived in the Middle East for over 40 years! Though now back in UK. The antibiotic (flagyl) I took was just one course but it made me feel more ill than the giardiasis itself , maybe the medication has changed and it does not have so many side effects now.
