Parts of the day for me are early morning and evening. Worst thing for me would be to keep wanting to go the loo on a plane!!!

I so sympathise, holidays are the worst times for me & I rarely enjoy them. I'm afraid I don't have any answers but I suspect that drinking different water contributes to the problem - although I only ever drink bottled water abroad it doesn't appear to agree with me. A consultant once agreed that was a possible answer. Good luck.

Being on holiday is not the problem, it is the travelling. My last 2 holidays have been 2 weeks all inclusive drinking and eating everything with no problems!!! It all starts again when I come home. What I am afraid of or embarrassed about is being in the plane and needing the toilet and it is occupied!!!!

More than understand your worries! Try not eat just before you get on a plane and if you do find yourself getting worried try slowing your breathing down and trying to relax. I know it's difficult but it does help. Have you tried hypnotherapy? It can be quite beneficial in a lot of cases.

Thanks Matt, will look into it.

I was diagnosed in 2012 (aged 65) and found that a strict dairy free diet has comtrolled my diarrhorea - have you tried eliminating foods to see if that is your problem.

I went to France for the first time after diagnosis last October and I stuck to my diet - I ate steak and frites nearly all the time but I coped

I've written a blog post on this which might be worth a read. mylifewithibs.com/travellin...

I have severe IBS, and my symptoms were bordering on the ridiculous last summer but I managed to embark on the journey of a lifetime, and am still travelling in Australia at the minute. For me the key was in the planning, 2 x Imodium before I left home, bland plain food a few days before, gluten free/dairy free snacks for the plane (I'm on the FODMAP diet), not eating anything greasy in the airports, relevant medication and painkillers in my handluggage and taken where relevant. Lots of bottled water and a hot water bottle for the hotel also come in handy! Also take it easy, jet lag can also play havoc, so lots of R&R in firt few days, and look into early check in and late check out if you tend to flare-up whilst travelling. Also if your on a certain diet, look for somewhere with relevant cooking facilities and a fridge so you can store and cook your own food, if relevant items arent available on holiday. Dont get me wrong I still panicked, still had pain and other symptoms but all the above and the anti-spasmodic dicycloverine helped a LOT. Good luck and best wishes.
