What is the pain so many people feel on the left side of their torso?
it could be from the large intestine as it reaches high up in the torso. I tale buscopan for that kind of pain which works well for me
Hi,
A good book to read is 'Irritable Bowel Solutions' by Prof. John Hunter as it explains a great deal about the various types and locations of pain caused by IBS.
Thank u, ill have a look for that
Hi
I get this pain a lot. My GP has told me that you get pain on your left side because as the food travels down your large intestine it reaches a point where it has to turn to move on but often it can get a little stuck which can cause spasms in this area.
Is this related to IBS then? or can this occur in anyone no matter what they eat?
Did you GP recommend anything to ease the pain?
Hi. I think this is common in IBS. I'm not sure whether it happens with those who don't have it but because our intestines are more sensitive and spasm easily it can occur frequently. My GP has prescribed all the usual medications such as Buscopan and Mebeverine, neither of which worked for me. Other people have found them helpful so they're worth a try. At the moment I'm trying Lepicol which somebody shared on here last week. So far this week I haven't had any pain on my left side so it looks promising. IBS is a strange condition as different things help different people so it's all a bit hit and miss. Other people have tried the FODMAP diet where you cut out certain foods and this has helped. You need to find out what your trigger for IBS is whether it's food or adrenaline or stress and then try to work on that. Hope this helps. Good luck.
This was the first symptom I had and, following tests, was diagnosed as spasms of the descending colon.
Okay, thank you for all your help. I do have mebevrine but haven't thought to take it for this pain, as it doesn't feel like spasms, but i will try that in future.
