I have had abdominal pain now for two months. It's mostly right side and under the navel it is sore, but sometimes it is just sore all over my abddomen. I also experience pain around the right hip towards the back. I am 52 years of age and went through an early menopause (haven't had a period for at least 5 years). I had simllar symptons last year, and my GP sent me for an ultrasound of the abdomen (result - nothing showed up). My GP also took bloods to rule out Coeliac disease. In the end, she suggested Mebeverene tablets, which seemed to work, and the symptoms died down. I tried Mebeverene this time, but it did not help. Neither did other antispasmodics such as peppermind tablets, etc. I have changed from branflakes to porridge at breakfast (soluble fibre), which has lessened the bloating a bit, but not the pain. I am gradually losing weight as I am trying to alter my food intake in order to try and discover what may be causing it. So far, without success. The most recent time I went to my GP (yesterday) she suggested the FODMAP diet, so I am going to see how I get on with that, but I was really hoping she would send me for more tests.
Next week I have to carry on with my working life. I'm just going to have to take painkillers and hope for the best.

The symptoms you are describing are so similar to mine. I went to the doctors today and she is sending me for more tests. Also did full blood tests. She said if symptoms lasted more than six weeks they would normally do more tests. She also said she thought it could be divertilitis. I am fortune that I am retired as I don't think I could carry on working as I have had two bad weeks. Bloating on and off and abdominal pain going through to the back all the time. I would go back to your doctor and ask for further tests to be done. Good luck let me know how you get on.
Thank you for your reply. I feel I have to struggle on with the suggested FODPLAN a bit before going back, but will definitely ask for more tests if it doesn't work. I hope there is something else I can do in the meantime, though.
Hi yep your symptoms sound similar to mine.....it's miserable bless you
You should demand further tests like I had to its your health
I was diagnosed with coeliac disease but also have an intolerance to milk as I'm newly diagnosed. This should in time get better as you intestines repair you can then tolerate milk again
Try going gluten free that includes oats! it is in there too! the fodmap diet has been my saviour, also going milk free has helped with my pain, bloating, wind, constipation and mouth ulsers. Try soya or rice milk with cornflakes rather than gluten products for breakfast also I know its expensive but organic products are much better. And Bananas can create bloating and constipation. Hope this helps I have had IBS for years and only with this diet have I started to clear the head fog and not in pain all the time! it will take a while and you need to be strict with yourself for a while to see if it works for you.
