Advice welcome please! Leaky gas.

I'm new to the site and looking for help and advice on what the options are for managing my IBS. I've had it for as long as I can remember and I can only suspect it may have started because of a stressful childhood. As a teenager I remember feeling very bloated but now I just suffer from leaky gas. It's a constant problem and worry. It affects my ability to do normal things. I often don't even know I'm doing it, I can't smell it and don't have any control over it. That is the main symptom of my IBS. Though I do need to poo often and so like other people have said on the forum, it puts me off eating and going out! help and advice welcome!!!

Have you tried charcoal tablets? They have helped absorb gas for me, but I don't use them long term. Try not to worry about it so much, it is better that the gas is released than being trapped in your body causing discomfort and pain. A good thing is that there is no odour and maybe if you worry less about it you may find your problem eases. I have a similar problem myself, but I am retired so it does not trouble me in the same way as it would if I were at work or amongst people continuously. Hope your situation improves!

Hi Essex,

Have you tried any food elimination diets such as low-FODMAPs which works really well for many people on here including me?

Thank you!!!

I'm going to go and see my GP this week to see if I can get an appointment with a dietitian. The FODMAP diet sounds really good so I will start by giving that a go.

To be honest, I think my IBS is 70% psychological because I spend so much time thinking and worrying about it. That's why it's always worse when I'm out or around other people because I worry it's going to be worse. I think my gut starts tensing up automatically now.

At least if I give FODMAP a go then I can assess whether food is a contributor.
