Is asthma a disability
Hello I was diagnosed with asthma 5 years ago at the age of 35. It took a couple of years before the correct treatment was given, after being hospitalized 2 times. I was also diagnosed with early state Bronchiectasis, given a leaflet on it and that was it. Up until a year ago, I had been fine, I was

New highest peak flow is huge!
771 with 3 puffs of blue inhaler-!! Now I'm really scared. Without blue my PF can be as low as 630 and only as high as 730. What does this mean for me? The local GP is not being helpful about it.

How to tell when cold has gone to chest
I've had a cold for 11 days; main symptoms have passed but I still have a cough, shortness of breath, phlegm (variably clear/yellow). I'm breathing shallowly and sometimes hyperventilating. No chest pain though and my peak flow is 450 (on target). Is this just the tail end of a cold or the start of something

Bronchiectasis?
Hi. I posted on here before about atypical asthma. Sorry for all this detail! I am really hoping someone might read this who has some relevant experience or knowledge to share. I was on Clenil or Fostair (neither seemed enough), and with Montelukast added seemed to get through more colds without developing

Asthma suddenly worse after 30 years of being well
Hello everyone and happy new year, I'm hoping to get some advice. I had bad asthma in childhood but it's been well controlled with a preventative inhaler since my teens, with only occasional use of my blue ventolin puffer. I'm 51 now and caught a bad cold at the start of December (despite a flu jab

Sport and managing asthma
Hi, I am 43 and after a prolonged chest infection I was prescribed inhalers following a peak flow diary and discussion about life growing up (it sounds as though I have had mild asthma from the get go). Now that I am in the know with asthma (I say that loosely as I'm actually not that experienced) I

Question about FEV1
Hey, I recently purchased a peak flow meter. It is an electronic one. I have had some widely varying PFT results from the full blown PFT inside the booth and some other tests at my GP's office. I noticed a big swig between numbers. I blow a lot of 1.89 FEV1's which is almost exactly what I blew when

How much does lying down affect peak flow normally?
Sorry for so many questions, just covering all bases while I keep good records for my GP. I noticed that usually my peak flow drops when lying down. Is that normal even in non-asthmatics? If it is how much of a drop is ok?

Dampness and asthma
As the weather where I live has got wet again this afternoon it's made my airways inflammation. So my chest is sore apart from using ventolin which will keep my peak flow up. I have seretide 250 2 puffs twice a day,Monkelaust, anti histamine. Waiting to see if asthma nurse will prescribe a steroid

I picked up a digital peak flow meter but I don't fully understand the readings
I get the peak flow part which matches my manual device's numbers fairly closely, but I also get something called an FEV1 rating which is about 5.45 - 5.59 on average. I tried searching Google about it but it's all Greek to me xD Can anyone interpret please? :)

Different peak flow scores from different meters?
I have these two peak flow meters. The left blue one can show readings up to 50 l/min higher than the right, and claims my highest peak flow is 760! (The other says 720) Which is the more accurate meter? Can it be affected by anxiety? Also how low peak flow would be considered a worry for me?

This might sound silly but what is this device?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00OLZ14KU/ref=mp_s_a_1_8_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1481476794&sr=8-8&keywords=peak+flow+meter I was searching for a replacement peak flow meter when I came across this thing. It calls itself a spirometer device but is it really?

Distrupted sleep.
After my latest course of prenisolone started 17 days ago and finished day 6. My body has got into the habit of waking up at 3-4 am. Great for peak flow meter reading the lowest one but not great for me. I have tried herbal sleep tablets and use the same routine every night. Have woke up before then

Some good news... I think
So I went for an asthma check the other day, my peak flow was low but the nurse said that could be because I hadn't been for an asthma check as often as I should have. Anyway I told her how I felt that I don't need my inhalers all the time, and only take them when I need them, and the nurse took the
