I was searching for a replacement peak flow meter when I came across this thing. It calls itself a spirometer device but is it really?

Hi I have never used one but I have heard they are not very accurate. I don't see the purpose of having one as surely you have a regular test at the doctors? A spirometer is the way copd is diagnosed and not asthma. The peak and flow meter is the important one for asthamatics. If you think there is something else going on your best bet is to ask the nurse/doctor for more tests. Interpreting spirometry results if for experts to do and not the lay person. x

It's a gadget to help improve inhalation technique and deeper breathing. It's not a spirometry machine just helps if lung function is reduced. I have it and another one similar as I've small areas of collapse so trying to improve my deep breathing rather than shallow breathing. You inhale hard to get the balls up to the top of each column and hold for 3 seconds .Hope that helps .

If you are looking for a great Peak Flow meter, that works with your smart phone can I recommend the Mir SMARTONE. It's made in Italy. I bought one in September and was a bit suspicious of it to begin with as it seems a little flimsy, but I used it along aside my trust old manual one, and the results seem pretty similar. Anyhow the results go straight to an app on my phone and I get them graphed by the app and also you can write notes about meds etc.

You can also then email results to your doctor. I love mine. Mir make all sorts of professional spirometry devices too, but this one is for home use and is very basic. It is not very cheap, but think worth it. It would be interesting to know if anyone else out there is using one.
