Does anyone else compete in competitive sport who has PV?
I've recently been diagnosed with PV and just had my first
venesection
. Before this I have been competing in triathlons and duathlons and don't know whether it is safe to carry on as the training can be very intense. I would love to hear your views.

Venesections for ET ?
After nearly 14 years with ET I have had my first
venesection
today as my PCV and HB were classed too high, platelets at 433.Reading past posts it seems this procedure is more common with PV. Has anyone else with ET had experience of venesections?

Haematocrit for those with PV
I am female, in my 30's and my PV is managed by
Venesection
and Aspirin at the moment, my haem aims to keep my HCT at 45, but I thought it should be lower for female.

My haematocrit seems to creeping up.
My haematologist seems loathe to recommend a
venesection
which is my choice rather than increased hydroxicarbamide - I take 10x500mg / week- he says it's dangerous although I seem to have little side effect from
venesection
- touch wood!

Does anyone have any knowledge/experience of reducing platelet count by collection (thrombapheresis)?
I was diagnosed with PV in November and my counts (red cells, haematocrit etc) have been reduced by means of venesections. My consultant suggests medication (HU) to reduce my platelet count but I am reluctant to do this, and have seen that platelet counts can be reduced by thrombapheresis, a process

PRV , hydroxy carbamide , osteoporosis link .
I have just got back home after six days in hospital after fracturing my hip . Diagnosed withPRV 2and a half years ago and on and off hydroxy carbamide . Interspersed with venesections to try to keep my blood counts stable. The hydroxy doesn't like me and I don't like it , so many side effects and now

Enlarged liver!
I was diagnosed with PV nearly 8 years ago and yesterday an ultrasound showed I have an enlarged liver. I'm still only on aspirin and venesections, so no meds to date and am not seeing my consultant till February. My spleen is only 11.1 cm. Can anyone tell me what this means? Thanks Mel

Who else has Polycythemia as a condition
Venesection
has eased the matter but concerned at not knowing of the cause and thereby a solution. Does anyone else have such a condition and if so has traced a cause and any treatment. Looking for a referral. Any ideas for London who would be the best Consultant to see.

I have just had my third venesection due to PV with about 8 weeks between the last two. Does the frequency normally settle into a pattern?

How is your MPD managed and what are your experiences at the hospital/ check ups?
At my next appointment I saw someone different, who changed my diagnosis to PV, advised
venesection
there and then (which I did) and also talked about meds, as you can imagine, I was quite shocked after being told nothing would change until I am at least 60.( I still don't understand how someone can

Has anyone experienced a rapid rise in haematocrit?
I had a blood test on the 13th August and my haematocrit was 0.45 but by the time I had my next blood test on 10th September it had risen to 0.49 It had been fairly stable for a couple of months before that and my dose of HU had not changed (1,500mg 4 times a week and 1,000mg 3 times a week) for quite

The fatigue!
I was diagnosed with PV in June this year after being told I was just depressed! Had two venesections, felt good after first one but not much improvement in fatigue after second one. Itching and night sweats are worse. Been at hospital, told I have definitely got PV but fatigue is not a symptom at
