Father in law update after hypoxia
He went from artificial coma,to
vegetative
state
, to minimally conscious... and today... here's where we are. Another update for anyone who's interested; So my father in law is physically going from strength to strength. He has had his trache out. He can now sip water and eat yoghurt.

Sub Arachnoid Haemorrhage Survivor
I could be left blind, paralysed or in a permanent
vegetative
state
. If no intervention was carried out I may never have another recurrence or if it happened again it could be fatal.

Neuroman 84 - Update
I felt that what's wrong with everybody I not blind or paralysed or in a permanent
vegetative
state
'Why is everyone trying to pigeonhole me as what they think I should be?'.

Food for thought
He was more or less in a
vegetative
state
. His family decided to sign a dnr for him. Eventually he succumbed to an infection and died. Joe has about my age and fairly active guy.

Vegetative state for 6 months
Hi there, I've joined so I can ask this question: have you or anyone you know been in a
vegetative
state
(due to trauma, I believe that an infection or otherwise has a different path?) for over 6 months and have they regained some level of awareness?

My dad in 2006 had a stroke at work, since then has been in a
vegetative
state
. So for 9 years he has been in this state and its been hell! I was only 16 when it happened and I have never spoke about it in depth before outside of my family.

Two years old boy with cerebral palsy was successfully treated with stem cell treatment.
Two years old boy, who had cardiac arrest in November 2008, was left in a
vegetative
state
with severe brain damage. His illness was known as infantile cerebral palsy. Doctors said he had minimal chance of survival as small as six percent.

Is there anyone else who has a partner in a PVS?
Its been nearly twelve months since my partners accident, after spending time in two different hospitals and a brain rehab unit we have now been told he is not responding to their programme and is showing all the signs of being in a
vegetative
state
(something I always suspected but still not nice being

A move.....but maybe in the wrong direction!!
My partner suffered a severe TBI and Hypoxic brain injury in November last year and has remained in QE Birmingham ever since, he has had great care there in the Critical Care unit and then on the ward, but has unfortunately remained in a
Vegetative
State
since a few weeks after the accident.

The aim of Cytotron cancer therapy is not the immediate destruction of the cancer cells, but stopping the uncontrolled mitosis, putting the cell in a
vegetative
state
and then die through apoptosis (programmed cell death).

Emmerdale storyline - Brenda's brain tumour - has it affected you?
Following this he had a massive bleed which has left him in a persistent
vegetative
state
. I am surprised and angry that ITV are not offering a helpline support for people affected by the story????? Surely many people are feeling it's impact!!!! Thoughts please, Sandra

My son is in a Persistent Vegetative State.
My son has been in a persistent
vegetative
state
since 2002 when he suffered a massive bleed to the brain at 16 years old. I am looking to connect with other people who have experience or knowledge of coping with PVS. It's been over 10 years for us, like a living nightmare.

Making fun of disabilities. Part 2.
If I did I wouldn't be able to continue to raise awareness of Persistent
Vegetative
State
. Ironically, I did exactly what it says on the picture Wednesday!! Sometimes you just have to.

People that think making fun of disabilities is clever!
While researching for my Persistent
Vegetative
State
support group I found a link to a site that displayed a range of photos depicting real people in PVS alongside other prominent people and celebrities that they obviously thought it funny to portray as being in PVS.

My ITU Experience
Everyone knew that I wouldn’t have wanted to be in a
vegetative
state
and so she declined resuscitation. It was then, as the apparatus was removed and my respirations got shallower and shallower, that I fought back and started to breath for myself.

The fact that I couldn't get a Blue Badge because I wasn't deemed to be a) nearly dead, b) bedridden or c) in a permanent
vegetative
state
doesn't bother me at all, neither does the fact that my chances of claiming DLA or any kind of disability-related benefit are similar to my winning £21million on
