Interleukin-6 and PMR/GCA
The newer biological agents like
Tocilizumab
are monoclonal antibodies of the Immunoglobulin G1 class and it works specifically by preventing the IL-6 from binding to the tissues. References The novel interleukin-1 cytokine family members in inflammatory diseases. Hahn M1, Frey S, Hueber AJ.

GCA and people not understanding
I am so much better now I am on
Tocilizumab
but still not my old self. This was the first time I have been taking it fortnightly, by injection. rather than weekly and I was told I was not to do too much. I had a long day visiting a china clay experience and knew I should rest the next day.

My next appointment with him will not be till the end of October, meantime, I am to have a blood test to check the level of
tocilizumab
in my blood, the sample has to be sent to Holland, where they analyze it, in order to allow doctors to fine tune the dosage.

Pred tapering starts tomorrow
The doctor wants me to consider
Tocilizumab
weekly infusions. I have read the study and understand the side effects, but I would like to hear some of your thoughts and/or experiences. Thank you

GCA, Actemra and feeling exhausted
I have been so much better since taking
Tocilizumab
but I still get days of aching all over and feeling really exhausted. I am really not my old self and wonder if I ever will be .

Today's the day!
We don't know whether the teddy bears are having their picnic, but the NICE guidance for the use of
tocilizumab
(Roactemra) are published this morning on the NICE website. https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/TA518 Criteria are tight, as we expected, but it's a start.

Mesenchymal Stem Cell treatment
I have been through all the meds and I’m currently taking
Tocilizumab
once a week via injection as well as naproxen and co codamol daily. I have looked into stem cell therapy done in Panama, and the results appear to be very good.

GCA and Tocilizumab funding
I have GCA and am taking
Tocilizumab
on the NHS and have received special funding. I now understand
Tocilizumab
has been turned down by NICE and that there is an appeal this Thursday. If the appeal fails what happens to people like me who are already on the drug.
