Advice on medications
So she has put me on
statins
. I told her that I don't eat anything rubbish and I have a very healthy lifestyle. Does anyone know or have been on these to give me a bit of advice, I have heard of some horror stories about
statins
and the side effects.

Insurance company issues
I've got private health insurance (since 2021, never used), but when I contacted them they said that because I've been on
statins
since 2015 and am also on amlodipine to moderate blood pressure that I am probably excluded from claiming on grounds of pre-existing conditions.

Iām unable to take
statins
having tried several I landed up with rhabid( whatever the word is) loosing muscle and feeling very poorly. I have been prescribed estemibe. I have stomache problems with all the heart meds and I have persisted with estemibe because Iāve got genetic high cholesterol.

Statins with an under active thyroid.
The NHS website says you don't give
statins
to people with an under active thyroid. Strangely, they haven't considered that my BP and inflammation are also elevated. Also, I keep crashing physically, have muscle weakness and joint pain.

These drugs have long been used as a lipid lowering drugs - although now
statins
are more widely used for this purpose of lowering cholesterol. They are not yet approved by FDA use in treating PBC. Often times, Ocaliva (another second line treatment) has greatly increased itching.

Statins! Oh the pain
Hi I have been on
statins
since having my HA in late August in Turkey on holiday. I was put on Turkish drugs and apart from fatigue I was fine on these. I have since been on Atorvstatin 80mg but I have suffered really badly with aching legs and arms.

Afib Stroke Risk Lower in those that take Statins
Something to discuss with your doctor if you're not already on
statins
, especially if you're boderline or even don't qualify for
statins
under current guidelines.

Polyunsaturated fats v saturated fats
My GP wanted me to go on
statins
because my total cholesterol is 6.6 I said no as my ratio was 2.5 and was told years ago this was brilliant. I have good hdl which outweighs my ldl but I'm afraid if I change to saturated fats this could clog my arteries
