Test results

Hi everyone,

I've received the following test results and have been advised to take statins. Do you think these results look like I could get my levels down with diet and exercise? My surgery obviously doesn't think so...

Many thanks

Hello,

Your blood test results looks good, life style change and regular exercise can help you towards a healthy life.

Your blood lipid results look like UK accepted levels!!!

Who ever types your test results did not check the unit of measurement?

Your doctor need to run a risk analysis to fully explain what your need to do to maintain cholesterol level.

Statin? may not be necessary unless there are other health conditions.

Your last comment, many GP practice do not understand the human need.

My practice, very difficult get passed reception staff and call center staff to get an appointment.

Take care.

Thank you for your reply.

It's impossible to get to see anyone at my practice too! I got a text after hours telling me my cholesterol was too high and should consider statins. Routine blood test relating to something else. I feel more reassured by your reply than theirs!

Before taking Statins I would have a good read of the potential side effects, particularly those relating to the kidneys & liver. Then ask your GP to do some baseline blood tests (GammaGT etc), and have a follow up test 4 - 6 weeks after to ensure there aren't any adverse changes. I was told they were relatively harmless and the benefits outweighed the risks. My GammaGT went from 38 to 153 in 2 months with some adverse effects on my general health

I had a friend with an LDL of 3.1. TC of 5.3. Doctor said it’s fine. I got him to check his Apolipoprotein B. Turns out it was 112. He saw a private lipidologist and they treated him with a high dose statin immediately. General practitioners in the uk are way behind when it comes to lipids.
