Reducing Lansoprazole and oesophical spasms
My gastroenterologist has suggested this could be better if I took
Rifaximin
but I would have to get it privately as the NHS will only prescribe under exceptional conditions.
Rifaximin
is better because it’s not systemically absorbed.

Recurring Hepatic Encephalopathy
In between the episodes, he’s doing better and better with his diet and keeping up 100% on his lactulose and
Rifaximin
doses (and about 3 others) and was looking like everything was getting better. And then this happens.

Day 21 Hubby update - looks like he might be heading back to square one
Yesterday he picked up his new prescription medications
Rifaximin
, Lactulose & Spironolactone. He took his first doses at lunchtime yesterday, but then in the afternoon had an upset stomach? Could this have been the Lactulose? Plus Hubby barely eats, so does not create much waste.

Trouble swallowing solid food
We are giving him
rifaximin
and lactulose along with Dytor 10 Plus. . So everything is in control it seems. He is still in bed as he has lost all muscles. We are giving him ensure, smoothies and juice. All liquid doesn’t go over 1 liter a day.

Abdominal sounds due to gas
I tried OTC gas reliefs but nothing helps, I was tested positive for H.Pylori and cleared it with Antibiotics, then my doctor tested me positive for SIBO and prescribed me
Rifaximin
and since the symptoms persist he prescribed me metridonazole.

Hepatic Encephalopathy Test.
I was prescribed lactulose, while others are prescribed Lactulose and
Rifaximin
, or other forms of medication. It would appear that in certain parts of the country, other tests are sometimes carried out to try and assess the amount of damage being caused in the brain.

Great support
We had a call this morning with our GP and she talked through the concerns and will be contacting the liver team to investigate other medications that could be prescribed, Neomycin or
Rifaximin
. Thank you so much for your help.

Taking too many Rifaximin
Sorry if inappropriate and I know you cannot give medical advice but has anyone accidentally taken too many
Rifaximin
. Let me explain I have taken to putting my husband’s meds out in little pots morning lunchtime evening as I am at work all day and despite now working from home have kept the habit.

Update on Husband
Hi, Since my last post he has done a lot of sound searching and I am certain that the
Rifaximin
has helped a lot with this he appears more like himself. I am pleased to report he is no longer eating loads of sweets and biscuits and has stoped drinking fizzy drinks.

We have seen the Heptologist
He is putting him on to
Rifaximin
and wants him to reduce the amount of Lactulose. If the
Rifaximin
doesn’t have the required effect then he will be referring him to the team at Cambridge. As we drove away he said to me well that went well it was all positive. I don’t think he gets it.
