Not asthma but anxiety?
After a lungs infection (apparently a strong one, was just gone after 12 days of antibiotics) I was still a bit wheezy, so the Doctors tough it was asthma and prescribed me a preventer and reliever inhaler (I barely used the blue inhaler) however, I returned to the GP and the Dr advised me to stop with

Very Severe Emphysema at 41, but feel OK
Hi everyone. I’m new to this group, but have found reading some of your stories really useful. I’m 41 and recently diagnosed with very severe emphysema. It’s come as a big shock, to an extent. I’ve never been a big smoker, mostly socially, but have had a long history of asthma and allergies affecting

How to tactfully put across "no wheeze can still = asthma"
I'm seeing the asthma nurse tonorrow after seeing the GP the other week for an asthma exacerbation. She decided that due to the fact I wasn't wheezing and my sats were 100%, I didn't need oral steroids and that increasing my preventer would be enough. Despite this increase, my symptoms are still the

Little or no GP support & confusing diagnosis.
Hi all. I have previously been tested 3 times since 2012 by my local pratice using spirometry, as advised due to an xray which showed some scarring changes from smoking. Each time my respiratory nurse advices that i have borderline COPD and many GP visits corroborate this. However, dispite this advice

Peak flow for 9 year old boy
I’m having trouble working out what a typical peak flow for my 9 year old boy should be. He’s 140cm. We are finally getting a proper asthma plan next week but I wonder what it should be? His seems on the low side of 130 - can go up to 150 after his blue - however being confused on how to work it out

Hi again. I’m not sure how to go about how to find out what is giving me asthma. I think I’m going to be discharged from the hospital and am still waking up with difficulties breathing which I did mention to the Dr. In fact I don’t think my breathing is right at all since the pneumonia. He is going

Is it COPD or asthma?
Hello I wonder if anyone can help me please? I'm 50 and have been asthmatic since I was 6. I had a chest infection in April but couldn't shift the cough afterwards. I then had another chest infection in June and was sent for a chest X ray. The GP said the X ray showed a tiny compression on the left lung

Reactive airway, not asthma?
Hi, resp cons this week says not asthma he thinks but hyper reactive airways. Given Avamys for daily use but told not to use any regular therapy for any SOB unless e.g. chest infection, for which he gave script for prednisolone to keep at home. Also a script for Symbicort 200 but told this is not for

Tight chest but normal PF
Hi guys, I had a flare up about 2 months back and after a tough couple of weeks when I moved from Qvar to Fostair it helped me get things back under control. Not totally back to normal but certainly back on track. Over the last day or two, however my chest has felt pretty tight in the mornings and evening

Late Onset Asthma Diagnosis
Hello everyone, I am a 53 yr old female diagnosed with late onset asthma. I visited my doctor 10 years ago with breathing problems, esp during the night, when I would wake up gasping, taking in air but appearing to be holding my breath. The Dr listened to my chest, said I wasn't wheezing, so it wasn't

Fev1
Hi i got a letter off my consultant today and it says fev1\fvc 1.35/2.55. Recent best 2.2/2.5 ( 2008 ). What does this mean? I don't know the readings of spiromatory test. Is this similar to peak flow?

Outcome of my consultant appointment
I have been waiting for my appointment to see the consultant at my local hospital and the day finally arrived on Wednesday. It was his last appointment and he looked tired but gave me his full attention. He was kind, listened to my questions and professional. There was a 5 point plan put into place

Stopping Brown Inhaler
I was diagnosed with exercise induced asthma aged 40 around 30 years ago. I played rugby till I was 60. I do tend to get chest infections in winter but respond quickly to antibiotics and have had pneumonia twice many years ago. I go to the gym three times a week to keep the phlegm shifting. I have always
