The radiograph shows calcium deposits in the joint capsule. The other radiograph is the podiatrist's own ankle for comparison.
The podiatrist says the spike of bone pushing on the Achilles from beneath is the cause of the ankle pain. But surgery removed the spike and the PRP so far hasn't helped. A closer look at the radiograph shows calcium deposits in the joint capsule. Nothing to do with PD, likely it's plain old arthritis

Neurological Plasticity
I have read about putting your brain/body into fight or flight mode thru exercising at certain levels. I have also read this can stimulate the brain to potentially engaging in neurological repair, I'm also reading about neural plasticity that can work along this theory as well. Bit of a deep rabbit hole

Neurofilament light chain
While it sounds like it could be a component of angel wings, it is instead something rather sinister. Neurofilament light chain is a biomarker of neurodegeneration that can be measured in either cerebrospinal fluid or blood. My understanding is it can be used to determine if someone is in the early stages

Prism PD Study
I think this is the NLY01 clinical trial. NLY01 is a pegylated form of exenatide, may be beneficial in PD and is being developed as a potential treatment for neurodegenerative disorders. Do you know someone (ages 30 to 80) diagnosed with early-stage Parkinson’s disease (PD) who has not

Experience use of Mirtazapine (brand name Remeron)
Dear all, Quick outreach to hear what anti-depressants PWP are taking (in this case my mother who is in advanced stages)? My mother was previously on Fluoxetin (brand name Prozac) but her neurologist took her off it (could be too many interactions with other medications). However, the staff in the nursing

Do We Even Have The Same Disease?
I'm sure this has been studied exhaustively, but I can't help but wonder if we have the same disease--and about the implications for studies which fail because sufficient numbers of us fail to improve. Are there studies which only recruit PwP with one particular subtype? Could some treatments work

Another Interesting Gut Micobiome Story
Carlin spent the next seven years reading everything she could find on Parkinson’s. A consultant skilled at identifying breakpoints in businesses, Carlin concluded that the disease is “a systems problem,” she says, a collapse of the body’s ecosystem. Much of what she had learned implicated the gut, including

2 Compounds Show Ability to Protect Neurons, Raise Dopamine Levels
"Two compounds with hormone-like effects — prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) and prostaglandin A1 (PGA1) — may help to increase dopamine levels in the brain and slow Parkinson’s progression by activating a protein, called Nurr1, that supports dopaminergic neurons, a study reports." https://parkinsonsnewstoday.com

Rocket, arugula, rucola: how genetics determines the health benefits and whether you like this leafy green.
Love it or hate it, rocket is popular all over the world. Also known as arugula, roquette and rucola, it’s known for its pungent and peppery flavours. It might look like an unassuming leafy vegetable, but the reasons for its taste, health benefits and whether we like it all comes down to genetics. Rocket

Advice on Rotigotine Patches
Advice on medication gratefully received. Hi all, first time poster, please be kind! PD diagnosed in 2017, various meds since then. Currently on 5 x daily madopar 100/25, and until recently rotigotine patches. Recently the patches have produced a massive skin reaction, pure solid blister and pus (sorry

Medication
Diagnosed with Parkinson's in March. Follow up visit with neurologist in two weeks. So far just slight tremors in hand. Is there an advantage to staying off medication as long as possible?

More Stem Cell Success!
A new therapeutic approach in which patient-derived dopamine-producing neurons are transplanted into the brain may halt Parkinson’s disease progression, a case report suggests. The approach uses patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), which are cells collected from the skin or blood
