Thyroid Hormone Therapy for Older Adults with Subclinical Hypothyroidism
I was thinking "There disappears your chance of getting treated if you are over 65." Then I remembered, that would only happen if they read the research… :-) The conclusion is interesting - it is difficult to accept the last paragraph as a fair statement given all the caveats in the paragraph immediately

Free Triiodothyronine/Free Thyroxine Ratio rather than Thyrotropin is more associated with Metabolic Parameters in Healthy Euthyroid Adults
Just how healthy were the subjects that any of them went on to develop metabolic syndrome? Nonetheless, this is interesting in that it reinforces the importance of FT3 (even just as it relates to FT4 to produce the FT3:FT4 ratio) and reduces, again, the power of the TSH test. Delayed TSH recovery after dose adjustment during TSH-suppressive levothyroxine therapy of thyroid cancer
Another paper pulling the rug from under TSH - at least in a limited circumstance. I doubt that the mention of cancer is at all relevant except as to why the patients were on TSH-suppressive doses of levothyroxine. Surely it is likely to be the same even if it had simply been over-medication

Another clueless doctor!
Saw a different doctor at the surgery for a chest infection. He checked temperature and said "you're not running a temperature". I said that's because I'm hypothyroid and me temperature is always low. He says, "oh that's a fallacy, people with undetactive thyroids only "think" they're cold, they're

Over-the-Counter Thyroid Supplements
Do over-the-counter thyroid supplements based on animal thyroid glands contain thyroid hormones? The waters are very murky. How do you assess this when the manufacturers/distributors often claim they are hormone-free? Are these products consistent - as in always containing pretty much the same amount

Seeing Endo #2 - please help!
If you read my previous posts, this all started about a year ago. Thyroid tested several times (not all tests that should be done, though) and every Dr says since numbers are in-range, they're normal. Even saw an Endo that ran everything EXCEPT T3 (FT3 or RT3). She said I was vit D and B12 deficient.

ADVERSE EVENT REPORTING IN PATIENTS TREATED WITH THYROID HORMONE EXTRACT
This is potentially a deeply concerning paper - especially given the way in which adverse events under desiccated thyroid are contrasted against those under levothyroxine. I think an awful lot of levothyroxine adverse events are not reported because so many have become just part of the scenery. I'd

Confused about blod test results. Advise appreciated!
I've been self medicating the last 3 years for low fT3 including all symptoms of hypothyroidism, but because my TSH always was within ref.range although in the high end, my endo wouldn't start treatment, but my GP was supportive of me self medicating. The last year I've been on T3 only, 50mcg/day with

Thyrotropin-producing pituitary adenoma simultaneously existing with Graves' disease: a case report

Update - Endo visit - don't know how I feel!
Well just back from my first endo appointment in 14 months!!! They've cancelled 1 and I cancelled 1 because they didn't send me the blood forms. Had problems getting them again this time too - my own Dr couldn't get the forms either, so he did the blood tests and I printed them out to take to endo

Levothyroxine absorption, liquid levothyroxine, issues and questions

Reduced Thyroid Therapy-Im new here
Under active thyroid: my medication had been reduced from 150 to 100 micro-grams over several years. I now feel very tired, reason given was that I had osteoporosis and that by reducing the dose it would slow down my bone loss. My last blood test Jan 16 showed that my T4 was 14.5 and mt Thyrotropin

Help in understanding please
Hi I have been bounced around regarding any diagnosis for some years and keep getting the same response of 'blood tests are normal' and 'just lose weight' [despite weight not being my only issue] Today I looked through all my medical records and got a list of most the results on there [I had some carried

Birth control options to suppress endo?
I was on
Ortho
Tri
Cyclen
and various other pills before stopping to start a family, then endo exploded in my body. Diagnosed Stage 4 and had multiple surgeries. Lost my left ovary, Fallopian tube, portions of my lower colon, appendix, etc.

TSH test not suitable for monitoring thyroid when pituitary gland not producing TSH!
Well, I'm flabbergasted!! I had TRH test in July last year and then had MRI brain scan in August to see if my pituitary gland is working properly. No follow up until October with a endo registrar who had no idea of the results and said he woud speak to the consultant and would write to me. Nothing

Advice regarding atypical hypothyroidism with surpressed tsh and low t4 and t3
Hello everyone! I'm a 27 year old male who have been struggling with symptoms of hypothyroidism since June. However, my endo have told me that thyroid medication is not an option yet because he thinks that my current hypothyroid state is probably just a transient case of hypothyroidism. My thyroid

Reversible normalisation of TSH in patients with autoimmune atrophic gastritis who received L-T4 tablet form after switching to oral liquid
Absorption of levothyroxine is clearly an issue which has not yet been fully addressed. With absorption of tablets potentially varying between 50 and 80% depending on make and the person taking them (e.g. gut issues), there is plenty of room for people to vary greatly in requirements. Liquid products

Liothyronine Improves Biochemical Control of Congenital Hypothyroidism in Patients with Central Resistance to Thyroid Hormone
Rather than "Larger prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings and to determine the effect of combined therapy on neurodevelopmental outcomes.", shouldn't we be asking:
Where is the evidence of the effect of T4 monotherapy on neurodevelopmental outcomes?
Shouldn't that evidence

Isolated Adrenocorticotropic Hormone or Thyrotropin Deficiency Following Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: Three Cases with Long-Term Follow-Up
Case three in this paper is of potential relevance to a number here. I am absolutely convinced that reduced pituitary function is far more common than is realised. In this case report the person seems to have been identified almost by luck. It makes a very obvious argument against relying on TSH only
