Liothyronine Improves Biochemical Control of Congenital Hypothyroidism in Patients with Central Resistance to Thyroid Hormone
Rather than "Larger prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings and to determine the effect of combined therapy on neurodevelopmental outcomes.", shouldn't we be asking:
Where is the evidence of the effect of T4 monotherapy on neurodevelopmental outcomes?
Shouldn't that evidence

Isolated Adrenocorticotropic Hormone or Thyrotropin Deficiency Following Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: Three Cases with Long-Term Follow-Up
Case three in this paper is of potential relevance to a number here. I am absolutely convinced that reduced pituitary function is far more common than is realised. In this case report the person seems to have been identified almost by luck. It makes a very obvious argument against relying on TSH only

TRH Test
I'm having a TRH test on Friday to see if I've got central hypothyroidism. The Endo doesn't seem convinced though. Are there any tips I should follow before the test? E.g fasting etc? Also if I have primary hypo with just a lower TSH do you know if this would show up on the TRH test or would it just

Determinants of TSH change in a community-based cohort
An apparently very low-key paper - which doesn't even sound as if it is about iodine fortification, to begin with. [i]Dan Med J. 2016 Jan;63(1). pii: B5196.

Homeostatic Control of the Thyroid–Pituitary Axis: Perspectives for Diagnosis and Treatment
Our advisers, Rudolf Hoermann, John E. M. Midgley, Rolf Larisch and Johannes W. Dietrich have just had another paper published in the journal, Frontiers in Endocrinology. The long-held concept of a proportional negative feedback control between the thyroid and pituitary glands requires reconsideration

Iodine-induced thyrotoxicosis in a woman with a multinodular goiter taking levothyroxine
Care is always appropriate when using iodine. As I read it, it took the best part of a year to recover. [i]Arch Intern Med. 1985 Feb;145(2):355-6.

Bridge Technology with TSH Receptor Chimera for Sensitive Direct Detection of TSH Receptor Antibodies Causing Graves' Disease
Newly published paper listing Dietrich JW as an author. For those who do not recognise the name, have a look here: http://www.thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/About_Us/advisors.html Anything that improves diagnostic accuracy is surely a step in the right direction. [i]Horm Metab Res. 2015 Jun 16. [Epub ahead

Print Messages lab results General Message Respond to Practice 04/24/2015 07:49 PM Your thyroid levels are high as suspected, and you have underlying Grave's disease as we discussed which is causing the overactive thyroid condition. Let's start a medication called methimazole. Please take one tablet

Iodine Excess as an Environmental Risk Factor for Autoimmune Thyroid Disease
I have long been extremely cautious about the use of iodine in relation to thyroid disorders. Yet many people point out the high intake of iodine in Japan and suggest doses of as high as 50 milligrams a day. So it is particularly interesting that this paper originates in Japan and cautions about iodine

The FDA Is Not Giving Up on Regulating Laboratory-Developed Tests
Thanks to rosetrees I found this article on the battle over regulating testing here in the USA. It has some other ramifications I won't go into regarding the development of leading edge testing. As Diogenes has talked about the regulators have been asleep at the wheel for years regarding standards

Thyrotropin Plays Dual Role In Metabolism And Sensing Seasonal Changes Without Confusion
It is some time now since I found out that not all TSH is the same. TSH is attached to sugar molecules - and these can vary. From the first realisation that this was the case, I assumed (without any evidence at all!) that this was significant and important. That which sugar molecule is attached could
