Anyone able to put on weight with bile salt malabsorption?
living with bile salt

from radiation to treat leukaemia. I reckon my weight has been a steady 20% less than it should be. And I have a very low BMI. Cholestyramine has made a HUGE difference to my condition. But has anyone found a way to increase weight?

Any advice for gastro symptoms which respond to steroids, but no diagnosis? Does normal colonoscopy cover the small bowel?
Alongside the inevitable loperamide (and FODMAP etc etc), I've had treatment using Bile Acid
Malabsorption
drugs (not tested with sehcat), and Ondansetron (assuming some fairly extreme form of IBS). This last has been great for a year, but is increasingly ineffective.

B12 and Ferritin
The haematologist emphasised that there is no intrinsic link between the causes of B12D and ferritinD other than
malabsorption
, but that deficiency and the replacement of B12 will lead to ferritin being sucked up until there is little left, with subsequent anaemia (ferritin is the protein that binds

Hi Again - b12 and Peripheral Neuropathy (PN) - its wasnt the Alcohol?
The alcohol may not have been helping and it could well have help mess up my terminal Ilium biome - but now, I feel the issue is
malabsorption
of the right nutrients from (probably) a lack if Intrinsic Factor, plus the erosion of my stomach wall which has been found as well.

I've severe BAM (Bile Acid
Malabsorption
); people with BAM invariably have NAFLD. It's a pity that MRI scanners cannot estimate fat levels.

Help Needed! Have I got Pernicious Anaemia?
I take B12 tablets too so all bases are covered but think it's a
malabsorption
issue - I've been on Lansoprazole for donkey's years (GERD, hiatus hernia), on HRT for 26 years (early menopause) and the hypothyroidism, all markers for low Intrinsic Factor.

malabsorption
of iron sent my bloods to his haematologist who messaged him back saying get me to ask GP for an urgent referral and she will urgently triage me, due to my bloods.

Being gas-lit: NOT Hypothyroidism, it’s Silent Reflux says Consultant Thyroid/ENT – Advice requested.
Regarding possible
malabsorption
, to gain that Vit-D of 120nmol/L I had been on 6000 iu Vit-D3 in olive oil a day (with cofactors) throughout winter. The previous winter I was on 5k with a result of 144nmol/L. And yes, we do eat oily fish.

Excellent explanation about B12 and malabsorption: may be due to other things besides pernicious anaemia
https://www.easy-immune-health.com/b12-malabsorption.html This article explains so well about B12 being malabsorbed; may not always be PA; could be H Pylori or other things. Explains everything really well. I have read: 'Could it be B12?' by Sally M. Pacholok and Jeffrey J. Stuart and it reflects similar

Breathlessness advice
In December 22 I was diagnosed with gastric reflux and BAM ( Bile acid
malabsorption
). This might be related but I don’t think so. In people’s experience what other changes have people noticed prior to their next “event” ?

Weight loss due to Progynova?
I have had a post-infectious
malabsorption
syndrome after food poisoning a few years ago and this could be the same as I was unwell a month ago. Really worried about my folate status given I had a FET 6 days ago. Xx

AIG can cause low/no gastric acid and this in turn can cause
malabsorption
of iron.

Supplement Guidance
. • Cholesterol is raised, meaning possible fat
malabsorption
, bile acid flow is required for the breakdown of fats and fat soluble vitamins • Ruminococcus bromii is high and this may cause IBS/slight inflammation • Lactobacillus spp. was not cultured and this is a key beneficial strain • Calprotectin

One of the most important things PAS does is provide a cohort of patients with PA, suspected PA,
malabsorption
issues, and B12 deficiency symptoms to researchers.

Any idea what is going on?
My consultant hasn't tested for bile acid
malabsorption
yet as he has gone down the IBD route. Does this sound similar to anyone? Thank you for reading.

gut health and absorption issues
I’m aware from previous posts that hypothyroidism is associated with poor gut health ie gluten/coeliac issues,
malabsorption
of minerals and vitamins. Is that the case for all causes/types of hypothyroidism and if so might you be able to explain the how and why.

Newly diagnosed along with other issues. Due to weight loss surgery.
Malabsorption
is part if it and I’m guessing this contributed to my condition. I’m 53. I lost over 230lbs. So in some ways it saved me. I’ve lost almist two inches in height, and I have a slight rib hump when I bend over which is scoliosis. I’ve been hit with both this week, I’m just scared.

soft, sticky stool which is hard to pass - any advice?
In July this year, I had another colonoscopy (with microscopic colitis biopsies) and have recently had a bile acid
malabsorption
scan. All back ok. Despite avoiding my known food triggers (diary, high fat, eggs, chicken…), eating low fodmap, only drink water etc.

Iron Deficiency Without Anemia (IDWA)
Low /no Gastric acid is thought to be the cause iron
malabsorption
. If you have any questions please let me know either reply to post or DM me. Again, I’m no doctor but rather a regular Joe finding my way through this. Hope this helps, Rexz
