Is it OK to take Mucuna ALONG WITH Sinemet?
Must my dad back off/down Carbidopa-Levodopa in order to use the Mucuna Pruriens I ordered for him and am reordering since it does help sometimes? Will switching from 15% to 20% help? Will switching to powder help? Is there a better brand? He is NOT on Azilect. Is there another natural substance

The MTHFR gene + homocysteine
Homocysteine is a non-protein forming amino acid which is associated with Parkinson's disease (+ vascular dementia, heart disease...) in several ways: MTHFR gene mutations raise homocysteine levels in PWP and several articles highlight this fact: Homocysteine Level and Mechanisms of Injury in Parkinson's

Difference between Sinemet and Madopar (Co-beneldopa)
A couple of days ago someone on this site asked me what the difference was between these two after I had posted that Sinemet made me confused whereas Madopar was almost miraculous in its effect. I'm afraid I can't find the original question but the difference is that Sinemet is ldopa combined with carbidopa

Dyskinesia: Lessons from Africa
I have posted this as there are many voices against medication on here but many of us see meds as a life saver despite the problems. It's primary purpose is not to convince those who are convinced meds are bad. It's more to support those who are taking them and to give some reasons why they have made

Hi all my name is Arman, my wife has a PD and recently is experiencing very severe twitches between a sinemet doses, so severe that is hard to describe... (she is taking 25-100 3-4 times a day, by the way she's only 44). Nothing seems to help; Azilect, Entacapone, Amantedine... She has difficulties

Recommended questions for neurologist?
I'm taking my 92 year-old dad to his neurologist today. Last time the neurologist had told me that my dad's flavor of Parkinsonism might be PSP-- I think because my dad can't look up. I will ask if PSP can be confirmed. Is there anything new in medication or treatment I should ask about? He's already

Neck pain - any recommendations to supplement the medication?
Hi All I'm in Scotland and my dad was been diagnosed with PSP in Feb. His main complaint at the moment is the pain in his neck. He has started low dose of Sinemet, Carbidopa and levodopa and he is on waiting list for Physio. Just wondering if anyone has found anything that can supplement these to relieve

URIDINE: Why LD/CD Users Should Consider It
*ATTENTION should be paid to Carbidopa/Benserazide and their irreversible, potentially lethal bond with pyridoxal 5'-phosphate. Note the following excerpt from a Oct,2014 PubMed abstract regarding (PLP) the active form of vitamin B6: "Both drugs irreversibly bind to and permanently deactivate pyridoxal

Restless Leg Syndrome & Parkinsons
Hi I have had restless leg symptoms for nearly a year, since starting levodopa treatment for Parkinsons disease. I have read that levodopa can make RLS worse (augmentation), but if I stop taking levodopa, my PD symptoms return. I wondered if anyone else has this issue.

Carbidopa/Levadopa question
I started C/L a couple weeks ago. It made me queasy so a couple days ago the doc added a carbidopa supplement (25 mg). I can hardly keep my eyes open and my legs feel like they're ready to give out after walking just a couple blocks or so. I want to give these meds a fair shot but I am wondering if I

Medication
I'm trying to replace Carbidopa/Levadopa with Mucuna Puriens. Wondering if I need to slowly reduce dosage or would it be ok to stop one 25/l00 as long as I'm still getting L-dopa from M.P.?

Irregular heart beat
My husband has had Parkinsons for 6 years. He takes Sinemet and entacapone. Shortly after taking his medication (every 3hours) he feels very weak . When I check his BP it is often very low and shows "irregular heart beat" I feel it is the medication rather than "off" time. I don't often contribute to

Frequency of levodopa doses
I was diagnosed with Parkinson's in the USA and my dosage is half a tablet three times a day an hour before meals. Now I'm in the UK and my new neurologist says that is wrong and I should space the pills eight hours apart. Who is right? I'd be grateful for any advice

carbidopa-levodopa
I would like to know how your relatives/patient has done when taken off the carbidopa-levodopa. Two different neurologists have suggested that I take my husband off it. I have not yet done it because he was in the research trials, and they require for him to stay on it while in the trial. He has been

Chest infection and treatment
Hi A quick update from my side - my dad has been bed-bound since July 2015 - he aspirated and had a PEG tube, and his carbidopa-levodopa was also stopped due to terrible leg spasms (this meant he could not swallow anymore, unknown to me) - it was restarted in Oct and he started eating/drinking/communicating
