carbidopa levodopa vs. coconut oil
I started taking carbidopa levodopa one week ago. My first medicine. Tremors did not stop all week. Yesterday I consumed two tblsp coconut oil once at lunch time and again at dinner time. By evening my tremors stopped and stayed stopped through the night. Was it the CO or the C/L? Was it a placebo effect

Levodopa Equivalent Plasma Levels App
A few weeks ago I wrote a post describing an app that I'd written to add together the contributions made by the various anti-Parkinson's drugs that we take. It used the idea of levodopa equivalent dose as a common denominator. For instance, 1mg of rasagiline makes about the same total contribution as

Bradykinesia
I was diagnosed with PD 2 years ago, non-tremor and am just on Selegiline. At diagnosis I tried Madopar and later on Sinemet, looking back I think the drs then had me increase the dosage too quickly and soon I felt so ill I was unable to work. Not nauseous but completely fatigued, sweaty, felt terrible

rifampicin, another a-Syn buster
rifampicin is used in tuberculosis and leprosy. Doctors had noticed PD and other neurological conditions improving while patients were taking it. Epidemiological work confirmed 3x fewer cases of PD in those patients. 16 articles turn up in pubmed on it and parkinson's. Here are three full text articles

Am seeking experiences and opinions from those who have taken Entacapone, (Comtan).
Entacapone is a COMT inhibitor, prescribed, in my case, to enhance the effects of levadopa/carbidopa. However, after reading the lengthy list of possible side effects and warnings, I'm having second thoughts. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Levodopa Equivalent Dose App
Many of us take a complicated mixture of different types of Parkinson's drugs, with different doses, at different times. The concept of LED (levodopa equivalent dose) gives a rough way to compare two medication regimes. For instance, 8mg of ropinirole has, very roughly, about the same effect as 160mg

I don't turn over in bed while I am asleep and it's causing pain.
I always wake up 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours after I go to sleep. This means I always wake up in the middle of the night, get up and take another levodopa pill, go back to sleep, then wake up again come morning and take another levodopa pill. My problem is that each time I wake up, I have a lot of pain in

Ordering a-Syn blockers in bulk. Master list of nutrients for PD.
I'm going to order the following plant extracts in bulk from China as powders and mix them for storage and later mixing in drinks. I'll dump the powders in a 5 gallon bucket, shake, bottle, and label according to FDA. I'm already taking about 2/3 of them. Let me know if I'm missing anything. I

levodopa and dopamine agonists’ treatment in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients can become ineffective to control involuntary movements. Laboratory studies on PD animal models suggest that physical training may help to alleviate these symptoms offering an alternative form of therapy. http://parkinsonsnewstoday.com

Sugar & alcohol reduce tremors? Undiagnosed diabetes?
Has anyone noticed their resting tremor reduces with a good dose of sugar or alcohol? Like a soda (11 teaspoons of sugar) or a full beer (4 teaspoons of alcohol). The idea is that cells which are not able to produce much energy from compromised mitochondria can function better on a sugar or alcohol

The more I take, the less I make ...
Sometimes I think that this phrase accurately describes the taking of L-dopa (in my case Sinemet). Do other sometimes feel it is like this? John.

Amphetamines in Chocolate and Aderall may cause Parkinson's, but reduce symptoms
Amphetamines like Aderall are implicated in causing Parkinson's as well as reducing symptoms. The way it might cause PD is by "wearing out" the dopamine system, but it also has been shown to act like pesticides and actually cause the bad a-syn protein to form. In looking at this, I came across two

Ritalin and Parkinson's
Has anyone had experience with Ritalin? (methylphenidate ) I'm surprised I had not heard of it being used in PD before, given the benefits they report. It helps quality of life, mood, apathy, and facial dystonia, but has primarily been used for improving gait and reducing freezing. It is a dopamine

Antipsychotics and pd?
Quetapine sp? Has been suggested for my gran if she struggles with movement and hallucinations in place of levodopa. I've heard horror stories about it being an antipsychotics but I thought you couldn't have that sort of medication for lbd patients? This is from a movement specialist.
