Updated x2: NAC May Mitigate Coronavirus Severity, also Potential Risks
I wrote about a study indicating that NAC is beneficial in Parkinson's here: https://healthunlocked.com/parkinsonsmovement/posts/133771398/nac-demonstrated-beneficial-in-pd That benefit may have been due to NAC administered by the IV route. The idea that NAC may mitigate coronavirus severity is based

The naturally occurring molecule N-acetylcysteine (NAC) shows benefit in a clinical trial for Parkinson's Disease.
N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is a naturally occurring molecule that replenishes one of the body's antioxidants and now shows potential benefit as part of a standard course of treatment for patients with Parkinson's disease, according to a study published in the journal, Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics

N-Acetylcysteine and symptom burden
This is an interesting article re reducing symptom burden/inflammation. The only supplement they focus on is N-Acetylcysteine which they believe could be a ‘promising potential therapeutic approach’ to MPN related symptom burden https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31093888 And is article suggests that

Opening airways and coughing up mucus.
Many folks write about coughing at night and trying to bring up mucus. Many also ask about NAC and will it help. [i] I take 1200 mg of NAC before bed and I suck on sugarless menthol cough drops. I am Gold 4, on O2 24/7 and I take Trelegy as my primary COPD med. I sleep very well and cough very little
