Newly diagnosed, but long time sufferer
Blood tests revealed that both my
haemoglobin
and B12 levels were low. My B12 was at the bottom of the scale at 196 ( the scale ran from 195 up to 771 ). The Gp initially told me that the lower end was still considered to be within the 'normal' scale, but I was not convinced at all.

Sickle-cell September: What is Sickle-cell?
SCD affects the production of a protein called
haemoglobin
that carries oxygen throughout the body. Each person inherits two
haemoglobin
genes, one from each parent. A normal gene will make normal
haemoglobin
(Hb).

Confused about blood test results
Despite supplementing, my ferritin and folate is low again and the medichecks doc has advised upping the supplements (no sign of anaemia,
haemoglobin
etc all at the upper end of normal). I’m therefore doubling my spatone intake and for a month I’ll take folic acid daily.

Op update and constipation tips and advice
May have to have Blood transfusion because
haemoglobin
levels low. Seriously worried about constipation going forward - not just in the hospital (have not passed a motion yet) . Tips/advice most welcome. Histology results maybe back by Friday this week or early next week.

Is pernicious anaemia likely?
My mean cell
haemoglobin
level has consistently been above the reference limit. In June it was 33.1 pg (27.0 - 32.0). My white bloods have always been borderline low. Doctors don't want to believe that I could have an issue with B12. Autoimmune diseases run in my family.

Three Months And 5,000 Steps
This has now cleared although my
haemoglobin
level was slightly below normal at the last blood test. By this time the heatwave had struck. I read about 10,000 steps but by the end of the heatwave I could only manage 1,000 and would be soaked in perspiration!

As did thyroglobulin antibody and thyroid peroxidase antibodies. 5.7.18: Doc advised mean cell
haemoglobin
level was low again as had been previously too 27.9 pg (28.0-33.0) but didn't explain why etc. Diabetes test again all normal.
