First line therapy changes
My primary question today is whether the fact that a patient had early chemohormonal therapy lessens the overall survival benefit of the 2017 recommended Zytiga/Prednisone + Lupron (or
Firmagon
).

Dad's advanced Gleason 9 PCa
My dad began his anti-hormone treatment of degarelix (
Firmagon
) on June 30. According to his oncologist, he will continue hormone treatment and begin intense radiation in early October. He continues to walk, at least, 2 miles each day and continues to help care for his grandchildren.

My hubby's story
After some waiting, he was prescribed an initial injection of ADT with
Firmagon
to be followed up with Lucrin in a months time. He is currently having 5 days of radiation therapy which we hope will decrease the pain - he is so tired of taking pain killers!

Casodex and Mystery of Testosterone
I will have
Firmagon
monthly injections for three months; then Lupron monthly injections for three months, then I will re-evaluate. I will stay on Casodex for combined hormone blockage. In addition, I will add daily Metaformin and my supplements (Lycopene, Zflamend, Zinc, and Magnesium).

Post about Eric's Passing & Offer to Help
Switched off Lupron to
Firmagon
+ Xgeva; PSA fell to post-therapy 20. Now castrate resistant. Pet scan, MRI showed mets to femur (x-ray shows it was there when I was first diagnosed!), pelvis, ribs, shoulder, spine, tailbone, legs.

Lymph edema
Firmagon
since then PSA dropped to below .5 until late 2016. Steadily rising. Left urologist treating to an oncologist we have now tried Lupron and Casodex. Psa still rising . Next step Xtandi, waiting for approval from VA. In the meantime I have developed lymph edema of the right leg.

Live like you are dying.
A new drug
Firmagon
was approved in 2010 and approved only after Lupron quit working. However my urologist decided to go off label and start me on the
Firmagon
. All the side effects are the same; however
Firmagon
needs no other drugs to help it do the job, at least not yet.

hopetocycle
I was put on
Firmagon
(Degaralix) which lowered my PSA to 1.3 for about 3-4 months. I was down to 1.3. But on my last test which was last week my PSA shot up to 15.9. That scared me. I have an appt. with my Oncologist this week to see what happens next. Probably chemo YIKES!

How long after first ADT dose (Firmagon in particular) does fatigue hit the fan?
Vague reports imply that the first wave of fatigue hits when testosterone drops (one day w/
Firmagon
, 2-3 weeks w/Lupron), followed by MUCH worse, HORRIBLE, intractable fatigue a couple of months later. We know that a few men escape the fatigue almost completely.

What would you do?
Firmagon
or Lupron increase risk of cardiovascular events. Radiation causes risk to intestines and the rectum and small bowel.

Chemo while low PSA
This was followed with Radical prostatectomy 2008, radiation 2009, thereafter Lupron,
Firmagon
, Xgeva, Provenge 2013, Zytiga 2013 (still on it!), Xofigo 2016 (mets in shoulder and ribs), Lynparza 2016. The PSA never went over 10.5.

Dealing with crMPc
Now on
Firmagon
, seems that isn't working now either. Appointment with Oncologist tomorrow and probably will do Provenge treatment along with either Zytiga or Xtandi. Looking at Xtandi because of no steroid needed and can be taken with or without food.

Pump Suggestions
Currently treated with
firmagon
and trial chemo of 40 mg Cabozantinim. I am interested in using a pump for erections. I take so many pills I just don't want any more medication. Any with pump experience, would like to know which have been easiest to use and reasonable cost. Thanks!

Soon starting the hormone and salvage radiation journey...
I'm told the hormone shots will be
Firmagon
and radiation with a "broad brush" over the entire pelvic area for 8 weeks. I've been resisting the idea, but I give up! Side effects of these two treatments can be minimal to severe, which is why I hesitate.
