Firmagon

Started with Firmagon a couple of months ago. Due to start the first of 45 radiation treatments in 2weeks, also my third injection on Wednesday. My wife is very upset with the Firmagon injections, she is worried about the future side effects because of my low testosterone numbers.

At first I only had them at night after having Firmagon injections. There must be a cumulative effect because the problem has gotten worse as I have had more monthly injections. I've taken it for almost 2 years and my PSA has gone to 0.004. from advanced prostate metastasized to bones.

Husband diagnosed in June, stage 4 with bone mets, diffused, PSA 571, started Firmagon, immense help from that and started chemo today along with ODM clinical trail. So far so good- pains gone, bloods tests up, but still progressing into the bones. Does chemo help? Any suggestions on that?

Continuing with hormone shots (firmagon) & Xgeva. On a happy note, my youngest daughter & I on the Feather River last week. She caught the biggest catch of the season (according to our guide) and made the cover of his website! 32 lb king salmon.

Hello - following discussion my Dad's GP has suggested switching him off Firmagon (Degarelix) and on to Prostap after only one injection of the former. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I also receive firmagon shots once month, along with Xgeva once a month. Experiencing bone pain, and a bit of neuropathy pain in feet. Had a radical prostatectomy two years ago, then cancer spread to seminal vesicles (T3B). Had radiation two different times, for a month each go.

When it started to climb again, my oncologist switched me to Firmagon (degarelix). Although my PSA has gone from 1.3 in July to 2.4 in August (almost doubling) my testosterone level remains undetectable (less than 0.1).

Firmagon is sometimes temporarily used to finesse the flare "problem". There is usually an immediate drop in T. Since castrate T is the aim, I don't see how the new paper would affect Firmagon being used in this way.

ADT with switch to Firmagon with Leukine again. Began Xtandi and HDK - initial results disappointing and the drugs took their toll physically. Changed to Zytiga in 2013, again with disappointing results. Xofigo in 2014 along with continued Zytiga.

He did chemo doxtaxcel and injection of firmagon. His psa eventually went down to 60. But began rising slowly again a few months after chemo was over. Switched him to Lupron and Zytiga. Four weeks in and his psa has doubled in that time. Two weeks ago it was at 184.

I have Humana and have just started Firmagon/Lupron plus Zytiga. Human sent me a letter saying, "Ok, we'll pay for Zytiga for a year". Johnson and Johnson wants around $7000-9000 a month for this drug. It's a direct result of the results of the trial (STAMPEDE?)

My primary question today is whether the fact that a patient had early chemohormonal therapy lessens the overall survival benefit of the 2017 recommended Zytiga/Prednisone + Lupron (or Firmagon).

My dad began his anti-hormone treatment of degarelix (Firmagon) on June 30. According to his oncologist, he will continue hormone treatment and begin intense radiation in early October. He continues to walk, at least, 2 miles each day and continues to help care for his grandchildren.

After some waiting, he was prescribed an initial injection of ADT with Firmagon to be followed up with Lucrin in a months time. He is currently having 5 days of radiation therapy which we hope will decrease the pain - he is so tired of taking pain killers!

I will have Firmagon monthly injections for three months; then Lupron monthly injections for three months, then I will re-evaluate. I will stay on Casodex for combined hormone blockage. In addition, I will add daily Metaformin and my supplements (Lycopene, Zflamend, Zinc, and Magnesium).

Switched off Lupron to Firmagon + Xgeva; PSA fell to post-therapy 20. Now castrate resistant. Pet scan, MRI showed mets to femur (x-ray shows it was there when I was first diagnosed!), pelvis, ribs, shoulder, spine, tailbone, legs.

Firmagon since then PSA dropped to below .5 until late 2016. Steadily rising. Left urologist treating to an oncologist we have now tried Lupron and Casodex. Psa still rising . Next step Xtandi, waiting for approval from VA. In the meantime I have developed lymph edema of the right leg.

A new drug Firmagon was approved in 2010 and approved only after Lupron quit working. However my urologist decided to go off label and start me on the Firmagon. All the side effects are the same; however Firmagon needs no other drugs to help it do the job, at least not yet.

Metastisized to bones. 11/14 Firmagon and X-Geva monthly. My question for HELP: Have any of you experienced Sleep Horrors from Firmagon? I am having the worse experience both night and day. I am not a weakling--but, I am afraid to go to sleep. Any solutions?
