What do MAO-b Inhibitors do for us that no other type of Pd medication can do?
I am not a doctor, nor do I have any form of medical training. However! I do have a lot of experience on this subject! I was prescribed a single medication, back in 1992, when I was first diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. That was the only medication I took for ten years. I now no longer need to take

Dopamine agonist withdrawal syndrome: DAWS This is a MUST READ if you are considering quitting dopamine drugs!
First Thank You ,p1pp1ns, for turning me onto Jenna's article. From there I learned about DAWS. I read 11 articles in which some were clinical studies and some were written from actual people trying to get off dopamines. Below are a few links that I felt gave the most information. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

The "miracle" of the OTC serotonin booster 5-HTP and my non-motor Parkinson's symptom's
The serotonin-booster 5-HTP, an inexpensive OTC supplement, has been more effective with the non-motor symptoms of my Parkinson's than levadopa has been with my motor symptoms. Recent research suggests that the Parkinson's medical community has been focusing too much on dopamine and that more attention

RLS seems to be worst when light is low in the evenings, at cinema, in bed etc.
This might be wrong but also it might help someone so here goes... As I understand it, RLS is linked with low levels of dopamine, and dopamine levels fall as melatonin levels rise when light levels are low (in the evening or the cinema etc). I ...

Why does RLS disappear upon standing.? I don't have clue. Believe it or not ;)
I read some older articles about how epinephrine and norepinephrine levels rise (somewhat dramatically) but NOT dopamine when we go from a supine position to a standing one. I have no idea if this is why our RLS is relieved upon standing.

Thinking of coming off of dopamine agonists and seeing what my rls is like. Anyone do withdrawal with the help of zopiclone or other meds? X
I had an operation for sleep aponea 8 years ago and still had PLMD. Then I developed RLS when I was pregnant in 2008 which got progressively worse until I started Ropinirole in 2010 which was a year of hell so I did a horrible withdrawal and started pramipexole and clonazepam both at the lowest doses

For you Gwenlou: Which comes first, Parkinson's or constipation? RLS or constipation?

THIS WELL STATED 20% loss of dopamine before PD symptoms show would A TEST FOR DOPAMINE resolve problem.. catch it before it gets hold
if 20/25% has to be lost then a normal level MUST BE KNOWN .this significant loss GOES UNDETECTED until nearly a quarter is gone .loss , without a flag being raised NO INDICATOR ,.natural recovery of dopamine AINT HAPPENING if the body cannot identify it, it cant action it. A TEST FOR DOPAMINE. isneeded

Which one should I choose?
So, it turns out that the amitriptyline was making my legs worse after all (but made the itching stop, oh well). The doctor's next suggestions are sinimet (which I don't want to do because I had bad experiences with the other dopamine agonists), carbamazepine, propranolol, or oxycodone. Anyone have any

It's a real miracle! I can't believe I'm not having to take drugs anymore for RLS.
This is my story...I am 63 years old and have suffered with RLS all my adult life. At the age of 40 (1990) my restless legs were so bad, awake every night walking a marathon, I went to my GP who prescribed many different drugs including Clonazapam. Nothing ever worked so I went to see a private Neurologist
