Biotin

Biotin & omega 3 fish oil. I'm also gluten free. I do suffer from digestive issues which is mostly a lot of gas & every 8 -10 weeks suffer really badly from pains in my back causing loud burping & gas from the other end too.

If someone was prescribed levothyroxine for hypothyroidism by mistake (biotin affecting labs or other weird stuff that made the results inaccurate) how would they know? I have read that the medication does not boost your current thyroid output but replaces it.

I know that for that I need to avoid B12, Biotin to ensure more helpful results but does it matter about avoiding those in advance of the basic TSH test. I'd hate to give them cause to reduce my dose because of my error. Many Thanks

I've just learned I should avoid B7 (biotin) for a week before testing as biotin in the blood can affect results. I stopped taking biotin 3-4 days before this recent blood test. Talking to my GP again tomorrow.

No supplements whatsoever for a week prior though I know it’s necessary to exclude only biotin I’ve included one photo and will send the second in a separate mail as only one at a time can be included, as far as I can work out

If I have a blood draw any time soon I'm worried the results might be skewed as I'm on a pre-natal supplement which contains biotin and don't want to stop taking this for a week as I know these early stages of pregnancy are important for getting all the correct nutrients.

I know the advice is to stop taking anything with biotin for a week before tests, but would this include a nightly cup of Ovaltine, which I noticed has biotin listed in the ingredients? :)

FTI 1.77- range 1.01 to 4.03 TSH .70 - range .40 to 4.5 No biotin for one week prior to test, test taken first thing in the morning, nothing but water before test and NDT taken in two doses the day before, one in the morning and one in the evening, a little more than 12 hours before before the test.

How long do I have to stop taking vitamins containing biotin before a thyroid blood panel please? Also how long do you stop taking Vitamins prior to a vitamin blood test for example Vit D and B12 etc.

I'm taking 150mcg Levo and last results 1st thing in morning, before my dose and with no biotin sups for 1 week prior were: fT4: 20. TSH: 0.23

She stopped all biotin supplements 4 days before we did the test. She took no thyroid meds the morning of the test. This is the first time the test has come back showing low cortisol, any insight as to why that would be?
