Newbie with drug question
I'm not sure if
Benlysta
is an option. I am in the US, so it's available, however, medicare would not cover enough of it to make it affordable, unless there were some kind of assistance program. And, of course, there are cancer and other risks with
Benlysta
too. Thank you for any advice.

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus drug Lupuzor
Results so far have been impressive, with the Phase 2b trial indicating Lupuzor could be more efficaceous, faster acting and lack the side effects of GSK's SLE drug
Benlysta
(Benlimumab) together with being available at a lower price. One to watch in the coming weeks.

Benlysta
A few weeks ago I was approved to begin
Benlysta
therapy. I currently take Azathioprine, Hydroxychloroquine, Losartin (bp) and Tramadol (pain). It seems that my meds are no longer effective, so my Rheumy will start me on
Benlysta
. Is there anyone currently on
Benlysta
?

DON'T FORGET TO GET YOUR FLU VACCINES & pneumococcal pneumonia or streptococcus pneumonia, Haemophilus influenza and staphylococcus aureus.
The new biologic medications (rituximab, orencia and
Benlysta
) can increase the risk of infection. Corticosteroids, including prednisone, increase the risk of infection. The higher the dose of corticosteroids you’re on, the longer you’re on the dose, the greater the risk of infection.

How many Lupus patients here have been offered biologics?
I contacted the hospital today and am asking for statistical info under the Freedom of Information Act of how many patients in my PCT have been offered rituximab or
benlysta
(my PCT does not allow
Benlysta
use!) since biologics have been licensed.

Q&A with XTL Biopharmaceuticals CEO Josh Levine on a Promising New Treatment for Lupus
Benlysta
received the FDA’s blessing in March 2011 and was subsequently acquired and is marketed by GlaxoSmithKline. Sales have been slower than expected due to limited efficacy, among other things.

Point of view from the USA, from both a Lupus patient and GP (I'm them)
I was being given infusions of the drug
Benlysta
but my monthly copay was going to run me anywhere from $500-800/month and that was just plain impossible for someone now living on short term state disability payments that barely cover my mortgage (and believe me my house is nothing to get excited about

Im on prednisone, plaquenil, and

Benlysta???!!!
Hi, have any of you tried
Benlysta
? I live in the US, and it's my understanding that it was FDA approved over here first. Now they are using it in Europe and Canada as well.

Anyone taking Benlysta in the UK?
I'm wondering why so many women are taking the anti-malaria medications instead of the
Benlysta
for their Lupus. Does the UK not allow you to take it? I'm going to attach a link regarding Zoladex(used in treating Endo).

February's Blog (Part 1) - Jenny's Journey to Diagnosis
I do have a lot of hope in the
Benlysta
treatment. I probably will get my life back, maybe by spring. My life will consist of ups and downs forever with this disease. It’s not like I get sick for a couple days…I get sick for months.

Prof Graham Hughes' blog May 2013
In particular, the new 'biologic' - belimumab (
Benlysta
) - the first new drug to be authorised by the American FDA (but, sadly, not yet in the UK) for the treatment of lupus, is already proving popular with those centres who have access to it. Undoubtedly it will be tried in Hughes syndrome soon.
