Hello everyone,

I am 56 yr old female who was diagnosed with RA approx 9 years ago. Has anyone diagnosed with RA ever experienced numbness/tingling in hands and feet, along with eye twitching. These new symptoms have popped up the last 2 weeks. I am on Rinvoq daily (the 4th RA med for me in 9 years). I have a Dr appt coming up in a few weeks but of course I am worried if there is something else going on- MS or brain tumor. My left eye twitches at times. I just wanted to talk to others to get opinions and/or support. Thank you!

yes I have this quite frequently. My hands and feet go numb all the time and tingle. It’s from inflammation is what my doc has said. And the eye twitching I’ve just assumed was stress lol. I have four kids and a husband who might as well be the fifth child. Mention it to your doctor though when you are seen. It’s always good to let them know what’s going on.

Thank you so much for sharing Ashley! I appreciate it. It helps to talk to people who are going through the similar experience. Yes, stress definitely makes RA worse. I have noticed that. Sounds like you have a lot on your plate. Is your RA med working well for you?

My methotrexate is working very well for my inflammation and my enbrel is working okay for my pain. I still experience pain but parts of my spine are fused and that pain enbrel won’t help with unfortunately. But otherwise I believe it’s quite helpful.

Don't worry the children get a bit easier with time.....the husband's possibly worse but at least there is only one of them.

Haha my oldest is definitely easier than the youngest. The husband I believe is a lost cause at this rate :)

there are so many reasons for nerve pain, and cancer or brain tumor are pretty low down the list. The most likely is inflammation pressing on nerves. Discuss with your doctors and try not to worry.

Thank you! I guess I just have myself nervous about the symptoms. I had Epstein Barr 25 years ago and that can be a precursor for MS. I am always a positive person but sometimes this RA can beat you down. Thank you to everyone for taking the time to reply. 😊

Hello,

I've had RA for about 3 years now and am also on Rinvoq. I've had numbness, tingling in my hands and feet for about 12 months now on and off and have been tested a lot in relation to it.

I've had MRI scans, a nerve conduction test, taking off lipitor (which I'm on because of the Rinvoq) because that might be causing it, taken off an anti-depressant I was taking (as that also had it as a side effect - albeit when coming off), etc. etc. and nothing showed up.

I had some very (very) minor issues with nerve conduction to one leg but that didn't explain the other leg or the hands. Also, I was told by my rheumatologist that nerve damage due to RA was very rare and more commonly found amongst people who had long-term untreated RA (I was treated within 2 months of my hands being sore).

It comes and goes - more comes - but I've learnt to live with it and just be careful, particularly when using the oven. I burnt myself a few times because I didn't realise how hot something I was holding was.

My experience may not explain yours, but don't panic. I just view RA as the gift that keeps taking!

Ask the GP to check your Magnesium levels as low magnesium is very common ages 40+. I take magnesium glycinate two hours before bed it helps me to relax and sleep. It also stopped my twitchy legs (restless leg syndrome) x

Hi. When I first needed prescription glasses my left eye would twitch when I was tired. Sometimes I didn't realise and people would tell me.. Tendons are affected along with joints so perhaps wherever there is a tendon we get symptoms. It's often frustrating to understand what is going on. I hope you get to the bottom of your symptoms.

I have had numbness in my hands. I contacted my rheumy helpline & was prescribed steroids. It was due to inflammation in a nerve, quickly resolved with the steroids, there’s no need to worry.

Hi Ashley, I get bouts of eye twitching and used to be only in the left eye but now both, it's always under my eyes. I have degeneration in my discs in my neck and due to have another MRI scan as the last one was four years ago and it causes nerve pain so I've always assumed that this has caused the twitching.

I had tingling on my lower arms and hands for a month or two a few years ago. Then it went. I think stress can plat a part too.

Inflammation in the lower back is quite likely, as others have mentioned. And the magnesium, mentioned as well, can definitely help with twitching, restless leg, calf pain, etc. Injections into the SJ joint help my wife with the neuropathic pain, along with Cymbalta.

Numbness & pins & needles go with the territory of RA hands & feet, and to be be honest everyone probably gets a twitchy eye every now & then.

Don’t stress the small niggles……..save your energy for the Big Stuff.

I was told by an optometrist that eye twitching was tired eye muscles. Yes have had that lots on past few year and my hands and feet particularly are most often than not numb or tingling

I really want to say thank you to everyone! It is so helpful to have a support group of people who are going through the same medical issues. I feel like it is hard for family and friends to understand, especially the fatigue part. Thank you all for your input and advice! Thank you for taking the time to reply!
