Worth a Spit ? Why saliva could hold the answer
Trying to work out how B12 makes the journey: - Salivary glands produce Haptocorrin (HC), which binds to the B12 in food (the extrinsic factor) - HC/ B12 mix then travels on via oesophagus into the stomach - HC/B12 mix can survive the low PH of stomach - Parietal cells produce hydrochloric

my biologic drugs stopped due to leg ulcer
I’ve had a very rough few months and things are going from bad to worse ! I started IDACIO in January (thinks it’s generic version of Adalumimab). At the time nothing was mentioned of leg ulcer I have which is taking such a long time to heal. However at my recent rheumy appointment when they realised

Normal IF test results
My blood tests came back normal - intrinsic factor normal,B12 levels normal. Private neuro recommended IM injections six years ago, again in November last year, never been introduced. I'm disabled, too sick to work, severe peripheral neuropathy, severe fatigue, muscle stiffness, pain etc. I have Hashimoto's

Positive Intrinsic Factor
It's obvious to me now i have pernicious anemia. I went round and round with the conventional tests but the symptoms and the positive IF are enough for me. My symptoms are scary and include psychosis so this has been a nightmare. My question is what exactly causes the low stomach acid to begin

Did Anyone With Diagnosed Pernicious Anaemia or B12 Deficiency have rapid weight gain before the deficiency was found?
I have recently added to my full house of Chronic Health conditions with tests showing high platelets , abnormal blood cell size , severe Vitamin B12 and Iron deficiencies and severe Vit D deficiency. I have just had the tests for Intrinsic Factor antibodies , folate , autoantibodies and Coeliac

Advice from the experts please?
I was diagnosed with Pernicious Anemia 5 years ago, bad story, long recovery and now watching for signs in my kids. My youngest (23 year old boy, history of Graves Disease) has consistently had B12 levels around 200. These are his most current test results and his doctor is not concerned and just suggests

Low ferritin question
Hi. Would be grateful for advice. My (adult) daughter had always suffered from anaemia to some extent. Last year her B12 came back at 119 and she had a course of injections. Recently she had been feeling weak, tired and with palpitations and tachycardia, so had blood tests. B12 was 300 and ferritin

B12 injections to buy - UK
Hi there I’m looking to start b12 injections. Does anyone know how frequent you do them? I’ve never been officially diagnosed with PA - I had a negative intrinsic factor twice so the doctors are adamant I don’t have PA. I’ve had tingling and burning in my feet, but my doctor is convinced it’s unrelated

Off pill causing my itchy head scalp
hey guys, i have been off pill since May for TTC. I noticed my heaf scalp is so itchy n drandruffy for like at least ⅔ weeks now. I have been using castor oil in roots every time in night time before going shower. I have used new shampoo since May and was fine until itchy scalp. My mum mentioned it

I know a negative IF test result can be inaccurate but can a positive one be false?
I've not been well since the middle of 2020, nothing to really put your finger on but headaches, tiredness, feeling like you're coming down with something but in December 2020 I started having episodes of palpitations. Was sent to A&E a few times but obviously by the time they got to ECG nothing was

B12 level 364pmol/l two months after loading doses - Low or normal level?
My GP has said that my B12 is normal now and no more treatment is needed after loading doses in April. I did have a B12 level of 80pmol/l before loading doses and intrinsic factor was negative. I eat a varied diet with meat and eggs so shouldn't be low. Iron has historically been very low and folate

Help with B12 and PA diagnosis? In UK
Hi I am trying to figure out if I have a b12 problem still despite the 12 weekly b12 injections I get at the Gp surgery in the UK. My original intrinsic factor around 4 years ago was negative however does this mean I don’t have PA? My b12 levels before injections were quite low hence why Gp started me

You wont believe this....well, you might 🤦♀️
I asked the doctors on monday to add some tests onto my follow up bloods my blood test appointment yesterday. The doctor agreed reluctantly 😞 I just want all the tests done at once to rule everything out. Additional tests asked for. Full thyroid including T3, t4 and antibodies. Rheumatology tests

Please help! At a loss with my dad's symptoms and GP
Hi all, Just joined this as not sure where else to turn! My Dad is 72 and in November 2020 his bloods showed that he was low in b12 (sorry don't have exact result). At the time I was baffled by this as he was eating eggs daily and ate red meat regularly too. After a quick search I read about PA and
