Your experiences with amiodarone?
Hi, my husband's experiencing a lot of nasty side effects with
amiodarone
including depression, tiredness, chest pains, cough, shaking hands, etc etc (GP is aware of this and will review in 10 days). He was on 1200mg daily for a week post unsuccessful ablation, now down to 200mg daily.

Use of anti-epileptic drugs and risk of hypothyroidism
The risk of hypothyroidism from phenytoin use within a shorter time frame was similar that associated with
amiodarone
use. No association was shown in most of the new generation AEDs.

So Disappointed
Meanwhile I have this morning at around 10am, on the advice of my doc, gone back to taking
Amiodarone
and also a small dose of Metoprolol. However, my heart rate hasn't really dropped much at all up to now being 102 at this moment.

Amiodarone withdrawal affecting TSH
I have recently (2 months ago) come off
Amiodarone
after 7 years. After being on it for about 9 months my blood test showed
Amiodarone
induced hypothyroidism and I've been on doses of Levothyroxine varying between 25-100 mg.

Warfarin alternatives
The Levothyroxine is because I was on
Amiodarone
for seven years and it affected my pituitary gland function. This has been discontinued for two months and has affected my INR and thyroid readings.

Have my ablation date!!!
After a failed cardioversion I ended up being put on the dreaded
Amiodarone
. Which I really don't like taking! Even more so the last few months as it appears to be damaging my thyroid. The last ablation made me feel so much better, so I'm hoping for that same result this time. Jean

I had a pace and ablate procedure last year but my heart is again in AF, only 85-95, is this doing me any real harm if I just ignore it ?
I was advised I could have yet another CV (my 14th) and a course of
amiodarone
but I dread this and it never works for long. Could the long term af, which has been confirmed by my EP, cause any serious problems?

Heart Rate
To get myself out I double my dosage of
Amiodarone
for a couple of days and I have found getting on a stationary bike and really going for it flips me back into NSR.

Is there a definition of valvular AF?
I'm also on Levothyroxine and Bisoprolol 10mg but
Amiodarone
and diuretics have been discontinued. I would like to discuss alternatives with my cardiologist and understand that some of these are not suitable for people with valvular AF.

AF / DC Cardioversion
23 March I was admitted with AF of 146 / 90 which steadied to 97 to 57 BPM on an IV with 200mg
amiodarone
. I continued the 200mg
amiodarone
medication orally for 6 weeks. The week before my Cardioversion pre-assessment whilst sleeping, I was woken by my left arm suddenly being air borne.

What if my partner does not have the ablation and does nothing
We have explored the other drugs but he was on
amiodarone
for too long and the other options don't suit him. I don't want to influence him or put any pressure on him but I want him to make the best decision for his future.

I am on Amiodarone (150mg) having had Atrial Fibrillation after heart bypass surgery a year ago and wondering if it is affecting my thyroid.
I am having sleep problems - wakening with a strong trembling sensation - and often have to visit the bathroom frequently (diuresis). I frequently have palpations - especially in the evenings - and these can be accompanied by shakiness. This is really getting me down! I have had blood tests about six

Ablation or Medication
I'm currently under a Consultant Cardiologist who when I had my initial appointment placed me on
Amiodarone
. My medication has been reduced and other than the odd slip back into AF I appear to be responding to it well.
