Dr Nicole Lamanna's Thoughts on the Recent FDA Approval of Acalabrutinib in CLL
Early phase I/II studies of
acalabrutinib
in CLL indeed suggested that this agent appears to have fewer adverse events than its predecessor.

I was diagnosed 8 years ago today
I was diagnosed 8 years ago today, as a matter of fact, and I completed my sixth phase of therapy a few weeks ago when I had to get off of
Acalabrutinib
because of the cardiac effects i was having, which had actually started in my seventh month of Ibrutinib.

Update to My Original Post Stopping Acalabrutinib
I had pneumonia dx mid Nov and had received antibiotics 3 times in 1 1/2 months, yet still was not well or improving. My GI tract was in an uproar, and I was losing weight far too fast. With my hematologist onc agreement I stopped Acalibrutinib for 1 week, and had a CT Chest scan. Wow, the results show

Ibrutinib/Acalabrutinib and Neuropathy

SKIP VENETOCLAX, GO TO ACALABRUTINIB
My CLL specialist said when I need treatment again (had to quit Ibrutinib after 3 years due to afib), he would probably start me on
Acalabrutinib
. My oncologist/hematologist indicated the treatment would be Venetoclax. I see the specialist on a consultation basis. Anyone face this situation?

To start treatment or not? Please.
Based on an extremely large spleen (he cannot even feel the spleen) he said it is time to start
Acalabrutinib
. Your thoughts, please. My enlarged spleen (was at 19 a year ago) and my neck lymph nodes do not bother me.

I am officially off of Ibrutinib
I was approved for
Acalabrutinib
and my drugs should be here on Friday so we will try again. I draw the line of side effects at anything which affects cardiac issues, my one strong part of my body, so will watch closely when I start Calquence.
