Autoimmune, lack of iodine, or something else?

Hello, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism last Summer, and received the following blood results: Serum free T4 level: 11.5pmoI/L (normal range 12.0- 22.0 Serum TSH level: 10.49mIU/L (normal range: 0.30 - 5.00) I have since been put on Levothyroxine 50mg which brought my Serum TSH level down to 1.54mIU

A few years ago I was taking iodine drops (only 5 drops in water a day) after seeing a naturopath because I live in Tasmania and was told that we were all iodine deficient here) but over a period of 3 years it built up in my system and caused me to have a very high reading of an over active thyroid.

Thyroid and the environment: exposure to excessive nutritional iodine increases the prevalence of thyroid disorders in SĂŁo Paulo, Brazil

We have had many discussions about iodine - specifically, iodine supplementation. This paper from 2008, which I do not remember ever seeing, is quite interesting and is fully accessible. [i]Thyroid and the environment: exposure to excessive nutritional iodine increases the prevalence of thyroid

Multi Minerals

I’m considering trying a multi mineral supplement, any advice on which type to try, and should I avoid ones containing zinc and iodine. Thanks Morgan 2014

Vitamin D causing tinnitus

Hi, I posted a little while back about vitamin D supplements causing tinnitus, well it turns out its not just supplements. I've been in the sun on a few occasions over the last couple of months and it affects my tinnitus in the same way. What the hell do I do? This has only started since I had radio

Newly diagnosed hypothyroid - medicate or not?

Hi everyone I have recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism - accidentally! I'd had chest pains on and off for weeks, and since I am slim, my GP tested me to see if I was *hyper* thyroid... but it turned out the other way around! My numbers are not dramatic but I do have antibodies suggesting an auto-immune

Poor nail quality

Does anyone else have extremely poor nail quality? My nails are in a terrible condition..if they grow 1 mm, they split and break. They look like I do 15 hours of manual labour a day. I have considered acrylic nails but think that would only make matters worse. This is accompanied by increased hair

Supplement, Iodine advice and more

Hi everyone Just need a little advice please. I am just not feeling right with headaches in morning, fuzzy head, fatigue and tummy upsets. I am trying to get to the bottom of why I am feeling so low. I came off thyroxine pills last May as I could not tolerate the fillers. After some hassle my GP

Elevated TSH despite its suppression

I had papillary thyroid cancer 4 years ago with local lymph node metastases. I had a complete thyroidectomy and underwent radio iodine therapy. I take a high dose of T4 and normally my TSH level is 0.5 or below. In two recent blood tests my TSH was around 6mcUI/ml, just above and below, and T4 was at

Can you have a delayed allergic reaction to iodine?

Hi all! I had my laparoscopy on Thursday (found and treated stage 2 along with cervical ectropion - the relief is sky high!) but I've developed a strange rash on my tummy, it's small bumps raised, quite red. Seems like it could be the iodine as that's where it's worse. Has anyone else had anything similar

100-150mcg of T3 but STILL COLD AND TIRED

Hello I am a 31 year old female. I have SELF DIAGNOSED as hypothyroid (normal TSH, LOW free T3, normal(ish) free T4). I had an eating disorder for 20 years and this can disrupt the HPA axis making TSH and T4 normal but T3 low due to conversion problem. I KNOW the dangers of self-medicating but I was
