STUPID PHARMACY

Hi Iam having real problems with my pharmacy since a new chemist came in. It is all over my notes that I am one of those few people that a change of brand causes me real problems so I do need the same brand every time, I also have it written on my prescription that my pain killer should be a specific make, these are the only 2 pills I have this problem with.

For the last several months every time my Thyroxine is due they send brands that I have problems with, I had a very over-active thyroid 40 odd years ago that I needed 3 doses or radio active iodine for I did very well for many years on the Accord brand and to be honest they are the ONLY ones that don't make me feel ill.

My daughter sorted it out for me last time that necessitated returning said pills for the ones I need but obviously that is a loss to the NHS but that aint y problem I did say to my daughter maybe they can't read instructions!

If I am going to feel bad then it needs to be because of my illness not because they decide they know my body better than I do. I do have several other long term chronic conditions and am currently being treated by the cardiologist and lung guy.

Round here we have an integrated care board but with this PHARMACIST IT CLEARLY AINT WORKING. They need to get their act together it's bad enough the last two months I have been taking the Almus pills even though it didn't say that but I now as I've had them before and know how they affect me.

I am really past caring now and will NOT be taking the mixed brands they have sent me so they can go stuff themselves.

Sorry for the rant needed to get it off my chest.

I would change pharmacy and tell them why you are doing it if I was you.

I already did as the one I had before was even worse!!! My daughter is calling them again today and is going to report them as they are ignoring not just the guidlines but also what has already been tried and tested and written on the pharmacy's notes.

Almus are Accord levothyroxine inside the box

Accord only make 50mcg and 100mcg tablets. Accord is also boxed as Almus via Boots and some other pharmacies

Relatively new ……Hillcross brand

This is also just a box, rather than a brand. 50mcg and 100mcg are Accord brand….but beware 25mcg is Teva brand

thanks The Almus ones do not work as well for me even though they are made by Accord/Morning side/Actavis. The ones they've sent in the 100 is called Vencamil I believe it is made by Aristo used to be called CEB Pharma Ltd and I think it has a German subsidiary at least that's what I found when I was looking it up yesterday and my brain isn't in gear at the moment si may be off the mark!

Vencamil is very well tolerated/preferred option for many members as it’s lactose free and mannitol free

But they might not suit you

Accord tablets are EXACTLY the same wether in Accord box or in Almus or Hillcross box

Inside the boxes it’s Accord tablets in blister pack

Request GP specify brand of Levo on your prescription

Name of brand must be on first line of prescription

Accord, Almus or Hillcross brand levothyroxine only

How much levothyroxine are you taking

Perhaps symptoms are because you need dose adjustment or because vitamin levels are not optimal

ALWAYS test early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

exactly what vitamin supplements are you taking

Tips on how to do DIY finger prick test

support.medichecks.com/hc/e...

If you normally take levothyroxine at bedtime/in night ...adjust timings as follows prior to blood test

If testing Monday morning, delay Saturday evening dose levothyroxine until Sunday morning. Delay Sunday evening dose levothyroxine until after blood test on Monday morning. Take Monday evening dose levothyroxine as per normal

Monitor My Health (NHS private test service) offer thyroid and vitamin testing, plus cholesterol and HBA1C for £65

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

In days before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12 if last test result serum B12 was below 500 or active B12 (private test) under 70

thanks SlowDragon the only supplement I take is Vitamin D as my levels are very low. I take quite a lot of tablets so I am careful and always check with GP if I am going to be taking anything else. My last results gave a TSH of over 2 which is quite high for me as I do better if it's nearer the 0 and my antibodies a year ago were OK. I will speak to my cardiac nurse as I am seeing her next week as it's a multifaceted team that's involved and I din't want to mess anything up if at all possible. Thanks for the advice.

Obviously just testing TSH is completely inadequate

You need TSH, Ft4 and FT3 together

Essential to test vitamin D , folate, B12 and ferritin at least annually

I am supposed to have it checked every 6 months as my kidney function isn't too good anymore but it all went cockeyed during covid although it is getting back to mormal more now thanks. I keep a record of my results on a spreadsheet so I know if they have deteriorated.

The one manufacturer's products that make me feel as if I have gone 10 rounds in the boxing ring, and have permanent concussion is Accord. The chemist did have that noted some time ago. However, for the past two months I have been falling asleep soon after getting up, and other times of the day. That whoozy non satisfying sleep. I decided to look at who were manufacturing my pills and I now see that ALL of them are Accord. No wonder I am like I am. Phoned Chemist and told them to make sure the note is prominent. But it does go to show how different we all are. They could make a nursery rhyme out of us two.
