Just a couple of weeks to go, and I’ll hit my 2nd million lifetime meters! On my indoor rower, that is.
I know the rowing community is obsessed with measuring the meters, but does anyone else measure the minutes, the calories, the workouts and then give yourself a reward?
What do you keep track of, and what’s your personal reward?
Happy working out, everyone!

I don't row, but I do walk as you know. I wouldn't mind having a go at rowing, but there's no room to put a rowing machine in the house and I don't have the finances for a gym membership so it's not really an option just now.My reward, for the moment at least, are the beautiful metals that I receive from time to time. I now need to think about what will happen when I finish this final challenge in The Lord of the Rings first series.......
Yeah, the rower is quite a bulky piece of equipment, although some fold it up regularly. (I don’t, and any guests staying in our guest bedroom have to put up with it. )
Walking is so good in that it doesn’t need very much and it is there throughout one’s lifetime, wherever you may be. It’s quite universal, isn’t it.
Exciting times ahead, for when you reach beyond the Lord of the Rings journey! And those medals are a beauty!
I have not been on my rowing machine for a few years but I run and I need to do strength training.Does rowing tick.all.the boxes for strength training???
I'm sure you'd know after rowing so many miles! Well done!!!

Oh yeah! Rowing uses more than 80% of our muscles, so is considered one of the best ways for doing some cross training. Specifically it works out our glutes, which we runners often forget about,
I also originally had a rower with mixed results until I found the RowAlong YouTube channel. It really gave me an understanding of the diverse ways to do all sorts of training sessions, from intervals, recovery rows and push-pace rows.
I would suggest to start slowly, and this linked series of YouTube workouts will make sure there is a gradual increase and also focus on technique:
Hi CBDB ! Mr Cheeky has been an avid competitive rower (on the water) all his adult life. Last year his rowing club set up an initiative to make the sport more inclusive (long story, too long for here!), and in a nutshell he set himself a fundraising challenge to row 3 million metres in 300 days on the rowing machine either at the club or at the gym. 😳
The grand finale was a 24 hour row, with just short comfort/fuel breaks. His determination was incredible, and people signed up to row 30 minute chunks with him throughout the 24 hours.
So yes, he was obsessed with counting his metres during 2023! 😅
