First S&F catchup of the year! And I can read many of you are busy doing all sorts of January challenges, from Yoga, Pilates, RED January, Rowing and Walking. January is an awesome month for starting habits that way!

So how have you been?

Have you, as I have, committed to almost too many January challenges because you just couldn’t resist?

And this is a great place to be, right?! Far from sitting on the couch, the enticing world of fitness challenges can make one easily overindulge in fitness challenges at this time of year!

But much better than a box of chocolates, right?

Let us know about your fitness indulgences! 👍🏽

And see you on our collective mat!

Yes, I have! 🤣 I ended up unsubscribing from two challenges because I realized that I had my own challenge already in my head: Do Pilates every day! Once I landed there, it felt very good to be sharing here because it still held me accountable - after all I "had to" post that I did my Pilates...

That typed, I still like to eat a piece of chocolate every day... 🙃 it's not a whole box, though, and it contains as much cocoa as I can find...

This year’s mantra is to be kind to myself…so at the moment I’m only committing to a daily YWA with the proviso that my knees hold up.

So…knees fine, just usual little niggles, but all those planks and dogs are killing my arms and wrists! 🙄🤷🏻‍♀️

do you use blocks? I have to admit I still use planks for down dogs. My upper body is just too short. But it also helps with wrists.

I think it’s more an arm strength thing…and I don’t think I can deal with more fiddling with props. A pillow for my knees, a firm cushion to sit on, my ironing board for balance… 😂

I use grips for planks and downward dogs. Less strain on the wrists. So then I have to wear fingerless gloves so the grips don't hurt my hands... my pilates bag is full of stuff 😬

Sometimes I drop onto my forearms but I find it harder to do!

I’ve got a bad habit of wanting to try all the cakes for fear for missing out! One of the unexpected perks of wrists injuries is it really limits what you can do so you’ve got to think more carefully before signing up for everything! So far I’ve avoided signing up for anything official.

I’ve been back away my virtual hiit class-squats, lunges, deadlifts, planks, abs-that sort of thing. I’ve had to adapt but I’m back to using light hand weights for some exercises now which I’m thrilled about. Hopefully downward dog will be possible soon. I’m really missing yoga!

I’m loving focusing more on walking and keeping my steps up. That’s been another unexpected perk of getting injured. I hadn’t expected my walking to fall off so much when I started running. I’d forgotten how much I love a chilled out stomp around the countryside.

That’s such a great attitude: not being able to run allows you to reconnect with walking. Chilled out stomps in the countryside sound great! 😊😉🥾🌳🏞️ (sorry, I replied initially in the wrong place)

I was just thinking about writing that I'm being sensible and not overcommitting, then I remembered the Garmin January badge challenges I've joined . . . . All 5 of them 😂😂They are really just a bit of fun and fairly easy to to achieve, my main issue is remembering to record the activity on my watch.

So here's the list . . . To run 5k on a particular weekend, two are step challenges which I know I'll achieve because of all the dog walking I do, a yoga challenge to do 4 hours yoga during the month, and lastly over to do 20 activities of over 20 minutes. Obviously these last two work brilliantly with doing my daily YWA which I'm loving.

I've also pledged over on the January B210k quest to do two lots of physio exercises and one Pilates class each week. Although this sounds like a lot the physio takes less than 10 minutes and I've a choice of lots of Pilates classes, many being only 15 - 20 minutes.

After an almost total lack of S&F in December I know that this is what I need 🤞

As you can see I've already got the Step into January one 😄👍

I'd had my watch for ages and didn't know anything about the badges until someone mentioned them on B210k. Now I try to do some every month

I've only signed up to the walking challenge, although I'm still getting encouraging emails for the daily yoga challenge (I'm ignoring it!)

But I seem to have signed up for two low-impact zumba classes and a pilates every week, as well as just committing to a c25k restart with an old running buddy. Yikes!!!
