Short Bedtime Routines

Well, it was quite an exciting day for me today, burnt cakes, family boardgames and of course Yoga. After getting into the habit of starting the day with YWA I just had to find some short, relaxing stretches for the evening, just before bedtime. And ideally ones you can do in bed in your pyjamas.

And what do you know, there are actually not many stretches IN BED, but plenty to chose from when accepting that you might just have to do these between slipping in your pyjamas and hopping into bed. So would love to hear what you do or what you prefer!

You’ll probably recognise some favourite names, but it was really nice also to find some more diverse instructors, as it seemed to me that somehow only women were doing stretch and flex workouts. I might have been biased in my searches, so let me know any preferences that I seem to be missing and let’s put them on the list!

Also let me know if you have your own bed-time routines that help with relaxing and stretching out any tensions.

Again, why not try them out in the coming days, and let me know your preferred one. I’ll try to keep a tally and see which one wins in popularity!

Happy winding down everyone!

BETH from NHS FITNESS STUDIO : This is something between Yoga and meditation and it looks great but 35min long! Provided by the NHS for free, before the YouTube craze took of. I am forever grateful to the fantastic staff that put the NHS fitness website together.

Yoga with Adriene : YWA is of course a favourite of this community. Cozy!

Pilates with MVMT’S Cailin : I really do like the PILATES sessions with CAILIN, and they feel a bit more like a workout than YWA. Sometimes that is just what you need… and sometimes not!

Mel Douglas of the Black Women’s Collective: I actually really like her 10min routine. I’m a different shape to hers but it’s so good to see someone not quite thin on the screen, and her Yoga poses simply look gorgeous!

Bob & Brad (recommended by @Imc50) are two physiotherapists, and they have a sweet certain kind if dad-charm… somehow… but/and they do seem to know what they’re talking about:

Do Hickman is a British Yoga instructor who moved to the US and from all the Before-Bed sessions I tried, I think this is my favourite one! Maybe because like me, she makes extensive use of props?

Saved! I can’t remember if I’ve done Adriene’s 12 minute practice...I certainly use her 20 minute one, it’s an old favourite of mine 🥰

Brill. Yes I was humming and hawing about which to put in. I assume you mean this one:

I’ll put it down as a recommendation from you?

That’s the one! 😍🧘🏻‍♀️

It’s all seated or floor work. Head and neck stretches, lower back work, NOT child’s pose 😂...that yummy on your back one where you hug your knees and rock. Also laying down cobblers pose, exaggerated twists, and bridge pose. There’s also a choice where you can do a plough, or a less strenuous pose.

You really do like that one, I can tell! 🤣🤣 I need to try that one! Have added it to the list of recommendations at the bottom of the original post! 👍🏽🙏

Some lovely links and ideas here! I downloaded the FIt On app a while ago (free app, full of different routines). I confess the only routines I do are some bedtime wind down stretchy sessions led by a guy called Vytas: Peaceful Slumber, Sleep Easy and Relax Before Sleep. His voice ... well, what can I say ....mmmmm. Ok. Enough! Many of the FitOn videos are also available on You Tube, though sadly none of these three are. There are some other Vytas videos though if, like me, you could listen to his voice all day ...

Yeah, I also downloaded the app. Some great workouts!

And several months ago I came across a workout by Vytas that focussed on neck as I had a cricked neck, and it was great! But when recently I wanted to point someone in that direction, it was gone! Searched both YouTube and FitOn app, nothing. I even emailed FitOn! But they never heard of that one. This is still driving me crazy (do I now dream of workouts?), so if you’ve come across it, let me know ok? 🤔

Hi

Can anyone recommend yoga for a complete beginner? I want to try but don’t have a clue where/what/how😳 thanks

Hia, welcome!!

Many of us do the gentle daily yoga calendar with Yoga with Adrience.

healthunlocked.com/strength...

Her practice is quite gentle enough, and one does not have to do every day, but there is a calendar with a practice for every single day.

Some of the practices are really short (11 min) and a few quite long (43min). But she is really good to take all levels along.

So have a look at the link ( healthunlocked.com/strength... ) and see if you can access the Youtube channel, and than join us on the mat any day you like?
