🥱I was feeling not quite energetic today, so though I could do with a nice slow stretch-y kind of workout, and my Advent list of workouts happened to include Breann Mitchell‘s 12 min stretch as part of the FitON Series.

🤳🏻FitOn has a fabulous IOS app, with loads of free workouts, but some of their workouts are also available on YouTube, and this is one of them.

📢And I really like Breann, she has that magic balance of talking to you, but never too much; encouraging you whilst pushing you to try harder.

💪This stretch routine attempts to stretch the whole body, from arms at your back, then to the front then to the floor, then legs and then back.

🦵One of the difficulties with this routine is that it does contain some challenging positions for people with sensitive knee, and there where several movements where I thought I’d better not. My knees would have never forgiven me.

🏠It shows that one really has to be conscious of one’s level, and it’s another reason why I like doing workouts at home where peer pressure won’t get you to go too far.

💃🏽 The description suggests it’s a great warm-up, however I would think for individuals like myself and possibly also others, this really needs a warmup, as the static stretches are really quite deep.

🦶So when doing this one, it might be good to add a bit of walking warmups and arm rowing before getting into the first stretch routine.

✔️Otherwise, a really nice little stretch routine that I will keep on my play list for a post workout stretch.

Happy Working Out Everyone

Today I found an article about hypermobility and that special stretching might be contra productive and unhealthy for the joints and ligaments.

Have you heard something about it?

I think stretching cold can be problematic, so from what I read, when running for instance, it’s now thought to be a (possibly) better option to walk 5-10 min before running, rather than stretching before running. But this might also only be valid at beginner level.

But there is the suggestion that there are quite a few injuries that happen from stretching from cold.

So it’s good to be careful.

The NHS strength and flexibility programme has a thorough 10 min warm up walking, marching with two different rowing motions and small /shallow knee bends, and that does seem best for individuals who have started on that journey not too long ago (like myself, actually)

See nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/r...

I am not sure about hypermobility, though, or if you are much more advanced and more flexible already.
