I am confined to my mother's house at present. I have room to do a most of the strength and flex but no bars are available. What alternatives are there for the pull-ups. I have experimented lying under the table and pulling up, bending at my waist. It seems to work but I'm no expert and don't know if it is the right thing to do.

Pull ups
Hmmm. I’m not sure I have anything useful to suggest, as I found some fabulous trees with horizontal branches that took the place of Laura‘s park fences.
But an option is
- to replace the exercises with one of these nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/1... or
- if you have resistance bands (old stockings or cycle inner tyre might just do, I have heard) here are these nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/1...
There are of course also door bars that one can get, but that wouldn’t have been an option for me.
And then, the way you’re doing them seems to work as well. So that’s another option, to keep on doing what you’re doing!
Well done and I’d be interested to read if you resolved this.
I think I managed to use the stair posts at the bottom of our stairs if I remember correctly. At first I put a broom handle througgh, but in the end I held the posts themselves.
Thanks for the idea. Sadly we live in a bungalow but all ideas are welcome.
You used the past tense. Have you moved on to some other form of exercise?
Ahh, that's no help then. I'm afraid I dislike exercise of this sort and find it hard to commit to. However it's so important to crosstrain between runs, so I have found other things that I will actually do regularly!!! I now cycle rwo or three times a week, do pilates once or twice a week and short daily yoga sessions to support my running. I admire everyone who does strength & flex exercises regularly.
Wow what a variety of activities! I'm so glad God made us all different with different exercise preferences. I'm also thankful for the chance to take better care of my body in later life.
Although your comment hasn't provided a solution to the pull ups I wouldn't say it was no use. There's the moral support of having someone willing to try to help which is worth a lot. Thanks.
You can get an over the door pull up bar if it has a frame? I think that is your best bet for indoors pull ups, unless there is something in the house you can hang on?
Yes thanks. We actually have more help with mother these days which means exercising is matching easier. I am so thankful for the NHS strength and flex and the Couch to 5K.
