Educating Enid - Try a kitchen sink workout.

Having pottered around with a broken arm in lock down, it is time for a gentle strength and flex activity.

My inner ego, Enid, found this Age U.K. exercise video that was a perfect introduction back to a more active life.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=JbMoL...

Although reluctant at first, I think Enid has just pledged to join the Strength and Flex - May challenge. ☆ A kitchen sink workout. ☆

It doesn't matter what level of activity we are doing as long we are off that couch and doing something.

(Normally I post on Couch to 5K but running is a bit off the cards right now.)

Brilliant! I think my husband would think I had COMPLETELY lost it if I start doing these kitchen sink exercises - he thinks I'm crazy running! 😂. I do agree, any movement is beneficial and think it might do HIM some good..... !!!! Hmm..... 🙄😏🤗👍

🤗Let's face it...we have all gone a little strange these days...but this is a good thing. 💃🙋🏻‍♀️ Happy days. 🌈

Good grief - I thought we women fought to get away from the kitchen sink - now your making it part of strength training! How hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Nilsam in reply to Fionamags

Love it. 🤣But please note it is chosen for its height and doesn't involve any 'actual' washing up.

(After all I can't get my cast wet and my OH is on the case!)

Sorry to hear about the broken arm, Nilsam. That’s a pain - yes, really.

I’m stuck indoors too, and that kitchen counter is a really good height! Good for Enid. I have a list of possible exercises on the fridge door & tick them off each day when I find a few minutes free to do some. Surprising what you get through. 😊 Tell Enid to keep going. We will feel the benefit when we can run again.

And it’s lovely you can still paint, even with your cast. Just don’t challenge OH’s spot at the sink when there are dishes to be done. 🤣🤣👍

Great idea, Granspeed. I love that idea of the list (mind you ...I love a list👩‍💻). Arm is not too bad really in the scheme of things.

You are right - there will be a lot of us restarting our running programme again. What week shall we start at?

Thank you for your support. 👭

I reckon I will be back to the beginning ... someday! 🌈🏃🏼‍♀️

I think you are probably right about us all starting there. We can do it properly together. 👭👣🌈👣👭

Nice to see you and Enid. Enid looks quite cheerful! Good for you. My daughter's partner calls it 'life hacking' when I say things like I do squats when I'm hanging out the washing! Take care, not long before you'll be out running again - you'd better keep that quiet from Enid!

Nilsam profile image
Nilsam in reply to Roxdog

I love "life hacks" maybe we should post these on Stretch and Flex. There only seems to be more strenuous work outs whereas a challange to do 10 squats each time you hang the washing would make us smile every time.

Thank you re Enid. She is getting a bit too content with the quiet life and may need shaking up. Take care and happy squatting...we are going to be so toned. 😁

Am on the IC too now! Need to rest a very niggly hip and glute muscles! Hope it won't take long, I wasn't forbidden to run by the online physio, but she suggested I wait a bit and ice the area etc.

My daughter had a 3 month break from running and re-started on week 5. Seems to be going ok.

Take care 😎

Ooh it sounds painful. I am so sorry to hear that. Good to follow the physio advice. As for restarting...I think if I can get some regular exercise routines on place especially some cardio rather than just stretches...then maybe week 5 would work. I hope your niggly hip and glute feels better soon. 👣💃

I’m shocked at Enid not leading you down a path of sloth and baked goods while your on the IC. She must be turning over a new leaf 😉. Yeah for you both.

Unfortunately, dieOR5k, the couch has a dent in it and the biscuit consumption has risen. But as the OH has taken to doing online shopping the lack on baked goods available to Enid has dropped. "Where have all the crisps gone?" Enid feels too guilty. 🤫 It is a forced Education with others watching you.

Take care, dieOR5k. Good to keep in touch.

I know my backside would have grown into the couch fabric and biscuit delivery on speed dial if I was on IC. I was glad to hear you’re moving about.

Nice one Nilsam, and good to hear Enid is gradually coming round - she’ll be joining you on a run next, when you can get back out there 😘

Great to hear from you, Wenderwoo. I was getting a bit desperate...days merging into each other. I forgot how the programme helped with the structure. Enid was merging with me again. So she may be joining me, yes. 👭

How is your health plan going?

My inner Enid has taken over! However I’m battling back occasionally. I bought a skipping rope and was doing that, but started getting back pain, so stopped. I have a small kettlebell which I use in spurts through the day. And I decided a couple of weeks ago to go for a daily walk for around 30Mins, despite the rules, as I was getting quite low which is not like me. I live in a village and it was very quiet with hardly anybody about so I felt quite ‘safe’. However it’s now become ridiculously busy since the change of rules (there’s a country park opposite where I live) with ‘tourists’. So I’m now going to check out your video recommendation! Oh, and I’ve also been doing a bit more art, and dug my sewing machine out making facemasks! I hope you’re keeping well despite the arm 😁

I am pleased to hear about the art and craft ...and the sewing. I was doing scrub bags and tried masks but they were not very good. A great way to pass the time. I found a walk about 7:30 -8 in the evening quite good as it is quieter. Pleased you are getting out (I know you are not meant to but holistically it becomes important to health). What about a 6am escape?

It's good to chat to you. Let's check out the Home Workout library together on this forum and see if we can recommend any good ones? 👩‍💻 Take care.🙋🏻‍♀️

Good idea - both walking early, and the home workout library - you’ve given me some much needed motivation. Cheers m’dear 👍😁

Oh wow, sorry to hear about your arm! xxx

It's great to see you and Enid on Strength & Flex though - welcome! And thank you for posting this workout. I hope you don't mind, but I have edited it so as to tag it into our At Home Workouts Library 😊😊😊

Thank you, Roseabi. I appreciate that. I will have a look at the library too. Enid and I are really going to have to try a few out. My one armed downward dog was hilarious so alternative are required. Happy stretching.

Just came across lovely Enid again, reminding me that (even during our Christmas period) , there are plenty of S&F opportunities using the spaces, rooms, furniture and activities we inhabit every hour of the day! 🙏🫶💟👍🏽

How are you and Enid doing? Enjoying the festive season! And has Enid changed her outfit? I loved seeing her pop up in the feed and must ensure her past explorations are not forgotten! Thank YOU!
