Summer Goals

I have been thinking about my next phase. My physio has actually recommended I stop HM’s for a couple of years. He thinks I am still in recovery from the op and could do with a little more help from myself.

To be honest I’m a bit gutted but totally understand where he is coming from. My heart rate slides really fast and I’m good up until 10km then I am putting myself under a lot of pressure even with run/walking. So I have made the decision to do a 10km event next couple of years rather than 21.1km.

So I was looking at what to do for this summer. I live in London but hate cycling on the roads but there are so many parks and off road cycle routes to use that I am considering getting a fold up bike. I need to save up for a bit but I had a little ride around on one of these today in The store and I really liked the feel of it, I felt very stable and safe.

At over 14kg there will need to be some muscles built to lug it on and off the train and tubes but the next weight down comes in at a whopping extra £100 for only 2kg lighter so I think I can manage an extra 2kg.

I like the thought of getting some good cycle days in for the summer this year and maybe I might just find the love.

I have a folding bike, but it’s too tempting to turn the motor on 😂. They certainly give you a workout moving them about too!

Mr Rfc was trying to get me to get an electric one. He thinks I could use and electric one more round where we live as it is all hills but to me it would be spending a fortune for something I don’t want to use. This one looks good as it can be wheeled in front of you so it’s only the lifting on and off. Do you cycle a lot? I’m such a novice. I got my first ever bike and learnt to ride to do a triathlon (which I did) but I am terrified of the roads. 😂😂😂.

Nope... think it’s been gathering dust at the back of the garage for a couple of years now. I used to be good and only engage the motor on uphills, but then I got lazier 😂. Maybe I’ll dust it down and have a go again soon.

Hehe, I hope I’m not starting something here. 😀.

I don’t like the fumes when cycling on the roads, so the bike has only really been used after a car drive and on holidays, so I don’t think I’m in too much danger of getting hooked!

Good post from you RFC, I have been a cyclist since I was 7 and still am but as I only go short runs nowadays I started with C25K just over a year ago, I hope you enjoy cycling just as much as running.

Only on Sunday you said that you had applied for the London Marathon next year but your record breaking London Marathon physio has advised you not to run any more than a 10K, in a way I think you will not be too disappointed by that considering your earlier post today regarding the 7 hour pace makers and how bad they were callously treated by the officials at the London Marathon.

Good luck for your cycling and any 10K event you may enter.

I applied for the ballot on Sunday and he told me Monday, he did say if I got a place I would have to walk the whole thing, but you are right the news this morning has totally put me off. ☹️. Good news though I know where to go for my cycling advice now as you must have lots of training tips and helpful hints. 😀.
