I've recently been diagnosed with osteoarthritis. Both my mom and dad had it. And need both had hip replacements. Mine are in my knees. One developing in my left and right knee.

I was advised to keep rowing and cycling as they low impact sports and it will slow the process down which I'm doing.

A friend of mine suggested turmeric capsules. This is supposed to help the swelling. I don't know if this true or not. But I'm willing to try anything. I also read up as much as possible.

I have osteoarthritis as well, mine is from a car accident years ago. I combat mine by keeping my muscles in good shape. I walk, run, swim and do weights. The more toned your muscles are the better support they are for your joints. My advice would be find an exercise that you enjoy and keep going. If I stop for any reason I am in agony with my joints, it is the one thing that keeps me motivated with my exercise.

HI there,

I too have osteoarthritis in my knees and sciatica. Just started a couch to 5km last week. Never thought I would run again but managed the 3 runs in the 1st week. Very achy on the days imbetween but still want to carry on. Week 2 starts today, with longer runs of 90 seconds interspersed with 2 mins walking.

I will let you know how it goes. Lots of stretching afterwards seemed to help.
