Mouth and swallowing problems

I have had a dry mouth for months now, my tongue is cracked and I have lumps at the back of my throat, I've had tests for lack of vitamin b12 and ana as well as others all are ok except for my frolic acid. I'm 62 and had low folic acid before but not with the problems that I have now. My food gets stuck in my throat and if I drink water after I have eaten it comes back up. My doctor has vertually said get on with it and said to mention it to rheumatologist next time I see him, that's a long way off, help any suggestions would be grateful. I have primary Raynaud's, IBS am on tablets for gastric stomach and other autoimmune conditions.

do you see a GI consultant as well as a Rheumatology one? (You say you have IBS). If so, ask them for an extra appt soon to talk about possible oesophagitis. You may need a gastroscope/ barium swallow or mri tests to check for eg dysphasia or oesophagitis.

If you don’t have one, ask your gp to refer you.

And/or contact the Rheumatology secretary or specialist nurses to explain and ask if they think an earlier appt would be a good idea.

nothing helpful to add, but what is it with these doctors who dismiss their patients so readily. It’s astonishing.

Hi Verily. Maybe you need to be tested for Sjogrens Syndrome. It's another of those nasty little "add ons" that come with these auto-immune diseases we all suffer from. I've had the dry mouth and dry eyes thing for ages now, especially in the night. Hospital prescribed eye drops which help. The dry eyes are not with me all the time it comes and goes randomly. The dry mouth thing is off and on all the time though. Very strange an Best of luck.d very uncomfortable. I'm never without a bottle of water and boiled sweets. It would be good for you to see a rheumatologist.
