Painful Fingers

I have calcium deposits in my fingers. I have had six operations to remove them, but they keep returning, and surgeon has decided not to operate any more. Fingers are very painful and having difficulty with zips, buttons, plugs, touching anything.

My thumbs especially are huge with the build up of calcium. Just want something to help dissolve this calcium and give me pain-free fingers. The only relief I get is when I take a fine needle to the affected area and burst the skin and release the calcium which comes out like toothpaste, or a hard lump.

Sorry to hear that you are having a really hard time with calcinosis. I agree that releasing the calcium lumps or the chalky liquid helps. My calcinosis seems to come and go. Last year one of my fingers got infected and I had osteomyelitis, a bone infection as a result. A long course of antibiotics fixed it but had seen a plastic surgeon as removal of the tip of my finger was a possibility. I find soaking my fingers in warm water at least makes it easier to get the calcium out. Keeping them clean afterwards is always difficult, I use an iodine solution, then a dressing and wearing disposable gloves when going to the toilet to keep my hands clean and dry. Hope things improve for you.

Sorry to hear all the trouble people are having with the calcinosis and am thinking very much of you all. Am going through a bad time with it and especially right now. I have a infected finger ulcer currently and it’s been the worst av had to date. Don’t need to tell any of you how painful and debilitating they are. Am very interested to know what antibiotics you were on/others have been on, what dose and for how long. Also, has anyone used salty boiled water or any other home remedies? Willing to try anything x

Only had antibiotics for UTIs. You just soak your hands in the salt water? Desperate to try anything.

Agree with soaking in warm water, especially after washing a pile of pots.
